Notes for: Walter Azelio Bodine

I did have that he died on July 14, 1939 in Lee Co., IL, but Ronny had January 30, 1953 in Memphis. I'll go with Ronny's date unless other evidence comes to light.

I did have that Irene was buried in Graceland Cemetery, but Find-A-Grave has her in Greenwood Cemetery.

1st marriage--1909--IRENE HOUCK.
From The Daily Review (Decatur, Ill.) of 17 June 1909:
Miss Irene Houck of Decatur and Walter A. Bodine of Mt. Vernon were married Thursday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the home of the bride, 1080 North Morgan street. The ceremony was performed by Rev. T. N. Ewing pastor of the Grace Methodist church.

Walter and Irene Bodine were living 1910 in Mount Vernon, Jefferson County where he worked as a commercial traveling salesman. He registered for the World War I draft on 7 Sept 1918 in Mount Vernon, Jefferson County. He was employed as a salesman for the F. M. Montgomery Company. Walter and Irene Bodine were still residents of Mount Vernon in 1930 when Walter was employed as a shoe salesman and in April 1940 lived in Jonesboro, Craighead County, Arkansas working as a traveling salesman. Irene Bodine was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur, Macon County.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. A. Bodine, formerly Irene Houcke of Decatur, who died Wednesday in her home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the home in Mt. Vernon. The funeral party will come to Decatur where burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. She leaves her husband, a sister, Pearl Houcke of Decatur, and an uncle, William Burnett, also of Decatur.

Walter A. Bodine, 52 AND J. Elizabeth Burns, 30 were married 9 Jan 1936 by Rev. George Stoves, Methodist Pastor.

From the Tennessee Death Certificate of Mrs. Elizabeth Bodine, born 3 Sept 1904 in Black Rock, Arkansas, dau. of Thomas J. & Dora Burns; died 20 March 1950 in Memphis, Shelby County, buried in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Pearl Houck, informant.

Walter Bodine, for many years a prominent Mt. Vernon resident, died yesterday in his hotel apartment at Memphis, Tenn. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Bodine was a shoe salesman and helped to organize the Country Club when he lived in Mt. Vernon. He left here in 1936 following the death of his wife, the former Irene Hauk of Decatur. He is survived by one son, Walter Ray, age 13. His second wife, Elizabeth, died last year. Survivors also include four sisters, Mrs. Lepton Harpole and Mrs. Lew Reece of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Louie Arendale of Bluford and Mrs. Walter Collins of Benton and one brother, Jesse Bodine of Mt. Vernon. Funeral services and burial were to be at 2 p. m. today in Memphis.
