Notes for: Arthur Windsor Bodine, Sr.

On 5 June 1917, Arthur William Bodine registered for the World War I draft in Manhattan. He stated he was born in New York City on 2 Sept 1894, was single and employed as a clerk. Although he signed with a middle name of William, it is said his name was actually Windsor. In 1942, he registered for the World War II draft as a resident of St. Albans, Queens County, New York and an employee of the Comptroller's Office of the City of New York and gave his birth as 2 Sept 1895. Nance S. Bodine was his next of kin. In Jan 1920, Arthur and his two brothers were living in a rooming house on West 122nd Street. In April 1930, now married, he and his family lived in the Bronx and Arthur worked as an auditor for an aviation company.

His 1st wife was Cornelia, daughter of George W. and Emma M. Chase. The marriage of Arthur Windsor Bodine to Cornelia Chase at the home of her parents in Pawling was reported in the Pawling "News." Cornelia died giving birth to twins. Her daughter Carolyn died two days after her mother and son Arthur survived three months.

Cornelia Chase, wife of Arthur W. Bodine, died at her home, Jamaica, L. L, on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1923. She was the only daughter of Mrs. Emma C. and the late George W. Bodine and was born in Pawling, which was her home, until her marriage to Mr. Bodine, a few years ago. She is survived by her husband, her mother and one brother, George Chase, of New York City. Mrs. Bodine was a student at Drew Seminary several years when the late Dr. Hanszburgh was President. She was a distant cousin of George W. and Nellie Y. Sloat, of this village. The remains will be taken to Pawling today (Saturday) when the $ 697.50 funeral services will be held at 11 am. and the burial will be in the cemetery there.

Services for Arthur W. Bodine, 77, who died Sunday in Scottsdale Memorial Hospital, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. Burial will be in East Resthaven Cemetery. Mr. Bodine, 8350 E. Keim Dr., was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Scottsdale four years ago. He had been an accountant for the Comptroller's Office of New York City. Survivors include his wife, Nance; a daughter, Mrs. Audrey Bergner of Scottsdale, and five grandchildren. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Nance Scott Bodine, 77, who was decorated by King George for gallantry in action in France during World War I, died today in Beverly Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Bodine, 4309 N. 66th St., was born in Carluke, Scotland, and came to the United States after World War 1. She came to Scottsdale in 1968 from Hempstead, N.Y. She had nurse's training in London and was a registered nurse in England and France during World War I. Her husband Arthur died earlier this year. Survivors include a daughter. Mrs. Audrey Bergner of Scottsdale; a brother and a sister in Canada; and five grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd. Interment will be in East Resthaven Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Heart Fund.
