Mrs. Miriam Bodine Ward, age 93, of Wilmington, widow of the late John Knox Ward, died June 17, 2003, at her residence, Port City Plantation, in the loving care of the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Mrs. Ward was born December 29, 1909, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late J. Alfred and Anna Mae Marshall Bodine and was preceded in death by her son John Knox Ward Jr. Mrs. Ward was an active and lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where for many years she was coordinator of the alter flowers. She was a member emeritus of the Cape Fear Garden Club as well as several other civic and volunteer organizations. Survivors include her daughter, Patti Ward Fisher and husband George of Oak Island; two grandchildren, Beth Fisher MacKenzie, Anne Fisher Hickey and husband Jim; three great-grandchildren, Sam Hickey, Sloane Hickey and Megan MacKenzie. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Oakdale Cemetery by the Reverend Heather G. Koontz. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hanover Arboretum Foundation, 6206 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409 or to a charity of one's choice.
