Notes for: Walter Edwin Bodine

I did have a birth date of March 22, 1878 for Walter, but someone else told me he was born in 1889. That would make more sense. I'l got with that for now.

Subject: Another Lost Bodine Found

Hi Dave,

My name is Victoria A. Bodine. I am the daughter of Norman ( Pete) Bodine who was brother to Henry and Kenneth. Norman is the son of Walter and Mabel Bodine. Walter (1889 - 1958) is one of six children, Lester..., Melvin ( 1884 - 1962), Jenne (1896 -), Amasa (1900 -) and Irwin 3/21/1903 - ?).Walter and siblings were the children of James R. Bodine ( 1853 - 1956) and Lenora Bardeen. James had 6 siblings - Caroline (1874), Emeretta ( 1872), Nettie (1870 - 1894), Fredrick (1868 - 1946), Serbella (1860), and Sarah P (1855). Now the records get scant. James was the child of Amsey H. Bodine (1831 - 1/12/1901) and margaret Peck. there is no record I could find of his siblings, Amsey was the son of Sylvenus Bodine (7/10/1807 - 3/23/1879) and Sarah Horton. I was able to locate Sylvenus on your site and he apparently came up here from Orange county. He settled in Prattsburgh, N.Y., and all the various other Bodines settled nearby in Penn Yan, Steuben County, and Burdett. I was born and raised in Penn Yan. It is interesting that I currently live in Interlaken, only eight miles from Ovid, and may be able to find out more about the Bodine that settled in Ovid, N.Y. I was referred to you by Denise and how I met her is a whole nother story!!! All the above information was kindly and studiously provided to me by the Town of Urbana clerk (Pultney, N.Y. ) All is verifed in her office through birth and death records.

...I have a rumor in my family that one of my cousins is in possession of Walter and Mabel's Family Bible and it may shed more light on this branch of geneology as well. The Walter Bodine in the family reunion picture may have been my grandfather.

...Interestingly, the crafting and mechanical runs deep in the family with several Bodines famous for wheel wrighting, carriage building, the sale and trade of automobiles, auto mechanics, and during prohibition - bootlegging whiskey from Canada in fine automobiles. My father had numerous cousins who are also in the car industry, or trucking industry, or continue to farm.

Feel free to call me if you want some of the lore. I hope what I have sent you is helpful!! 607-387-5052.

Victoria A. Bodine

Also from Victoria:

My grandfather Walter had a farm in Italy Valley. AT the time of his death, my father, and his brothers were a mailman, and two electricians. None of them had interest in farming. The farm was sold ... to the Catholic Church which now has a church camp on the land called Camp Koininoa. I never met my grandfather or grandmother as they were deceased when I was born. I knew little of my father's uncles, however, on several occasions did meet his Aunt Jenne.

...

Melvin did have a farm in MIddlesex, and Charles owned a trucking company in Dresden...
