Albert Bodines wife was Mary Ann Bishop Williamson Bodine. She is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn. I'm afraid we were on opposing sides in a court case Williamson (Amor's sons) vs Albert Bodine for Mary Ann's inheritence. I have alot of the original paperwork. Went on for years. Finally settled in Williamson's favor and Albert was ordered to pay Williamson compensation. Are you in Staten Island? I'd love to know where Albert and Mary Ann's house was located. Do you know? Also know that Albert is buried in the Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island. Thanks, Anne Curtis

From Ronny Bodine (Feb. 2, 2021):

Albert Bodine was bapt. 18 Oct 1838 at the Port Richmond Dutch Reformed Church. He was living with his mother in 1850 and his brother William in 1860. Having apprenticed with his brother James, he pursued the profession of a dentist and was practicing his profession in the 14th Ward of New York in 1870, was called a doctor in 1880 in Manhattan and appears as Albert Bodine, dentist, in Manhattan, now married with three children in June 1900.

1st marriage--1871--MARY ANN BISHOP.
The New York Herald of 12 Oct 1871 reported the marriage of Dr. Albert Bodine to Mary A. Williamson at the home of the bride. His 1st wife, Mary Ann, was the widow of Amor J. Williamson (1823-1867), Tax Commissioner and owner of the "New York Dispatch." Mary Ann Williamson also was the owner of Dongan Manor in Richmond County, having become sole owner upon the death of her husband, and when she married Albert Z. Bodine, possession of Dongan Manor once again passed to the Bodine family. Mary Ann left her husband an estate valued at $60,000, plus land in Manhattan and Staten Island. One of her properties at 57th Street and Broadway in Manhattan is where Trump Tower now stands.

On Christmas Day, 1878, Dongan Manor burned and for many years the charred ruins served as a memorial to a home that had served six generations of the Bodine family. Morris, Ira K.. "Morris's memorial history of Staten Island, New York," New York: Memorial Pub. Co., c1898-c1900, p. 111-112. Soon afterward, Albert Bodine moved to Manhattan and sold off his wife's property. For decades afterwards, the disposal of Mary Ann Bodine's property was in litigation between Albert Bodine and her four Williamson sons who had filed suit against him for embezzlement.

Obituary, New York Herald of 27 Jan 1878.
BODINE--At West New Brighton, Staten Island, on Saturday, January 26, Mary A., wife of Dr. Albert Bodine in the 46th year of her age. The funeral will take place from her late residence, at West New Brighton, at eleven o'clock, Tuesday, January 29. Boats leave Whitehall st. at 9 and 10 o'clock A.M., and Dey st. at 8:10 and 9:30. Friends of the family are invited to attend without further notice. [Note: Mary Ann Bishop Williamson Bodine was buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn.]

2nd marriage--1894--LYDIA GERTRUDE JOURNEAY.
In June 1900, Albert Bodine lived with his 2nd wife and 3 children at 101 West Ninety-first Street in Manhattan. His wife was named Lilly, daughter of Jasper and Marion V. (Jones) Journeay, and a native of Canada, who had immigrated to the United States in 1886 and to whom he had been married 6 years. Lilly had borne 3 children, all then living with them. Aside from his successful dental practice, Albert Bodine had also founded a newspaper, "The Morning Telegram," reporting society events and racing news. After his death it was sold and eventually merged with the "Daily Racing Form" which still exists to this day.

Obituary, the New York Times of 1 Dec 1902.
Dr. ALFRED [sic] BODINE died of congestion of the brain on Saturday at 101 West Ninety-first Street. He was born on Staten Island fifty-four years ago. He was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, with the degree of Medical Doctor and Surgeon Dentist. In recent years he devoted himself exclusively to dentistry. He was the author of several works on dental surgery and dentistry in general.

The death of Albert Bodine was also reported in the "New York Times" of 2 Dec 1902. His name was included only in the daily list of reported deaths for 1 Dec, as Albert Bodine, age 63, of 101 W. 91st Street, died 29 Nov.

Albert's death left Lilly with no resources to continue the lifestyle they had led and to support herself and her three children she took to dressmaking. She was named Mrs. Gertrude Bodine of Manhattan by her son Louis when he registered for the World War I draft in Sept. 1918. Lilly Bodine was a victim of the 1918 influenza epidemic and was buried beside her husband in the Moravian Cemetery, Richmond County.

From New York Death Records:
Gertrude Bodine died 4 Nov 1918 in Islip, Suffolk County.
