Notes for: Arthur Cornelius Bodine

I did have his name as "C. Arthur Bodine," but I have seen several references to just "Arthur Bodine." He is mentioned in his father's obituary as "Arhtur C. Bodine." I will go with that.

The Auburn Citizen of Tuesday June 16, 1914 has the obituary of "Mrs. Mary Selover Bodine, 74, widow of J. Martin Bodine." She died early that morning at her home in Owasco. She was born in Niles. One daughter, Mrs. Edward Chamberlain of Owasco and one son, Arthur C. of Port Byron, survived her. Funeral services were to be held on Thursday at her home by a Presbyterian minister with burial at Owasco Rural Cemetery.

The name of his wife (Margaret - sic) was an error. It came from surrogate records that must have confused Arthur's mother with his wife.

Arthur died or was buried on March 10, 1928 at age 52.

From Ronny Bodine:

From The Auburn (N.Y.) Bulletin of Thursday, 6 Oct 1898.
Miss Jessie May Duryea and Arthur C. Bodine were married last evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Duryea in Owasco by Rev. J. C. Rodgers of Owasco.

In June 1900, Arthur and Jessie Bodine lived in Owasco, Cayuga County, New York where he worked as a grocer. Married just 2 years, the couple had no children yet. George M. and Mary Duryea, Jessie's parents, lived with them. In April 1910, Arthur and Jessie Bodine and their daughter Hazel lived in the home of George and Mary Duryea in Owasco. On 12 Sept 1918, Arthur Cornelius Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York. He reported he was born 19 April 1875, worked in a grocery, and Mrs. Jessie M. Bodine was his next of kin. In 1920, Arthur Bodine lived in Mentz, Cayuga County, New York operating his own grocery store. Following the death of her husband, Jessie Bodine married Edwin Chamberlain, the widower of Arthur's sister Jennie on 4 June 1932 in Port Byron, Orange County. Arthur Bodine was buried in Owasco Rural Cemetery, Skaneateles, New York as was Edwin and Jessie Chamberlain.
