Notes for: John E. Bodine

This is the John E. Bodine found on the 1880 Census of Stockton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey (v. 13, ed. 66, sh. 2. ln. 1). He was a laborer, age 37, born in NJ. Both his parents were born in NJ, too. His wife, Jane, was 37 and born in NJ, as well as her parents. Their children were Aesah L. (13), Clara W. (10), Della C. (7) and Hannah P. (4). All were born in NJ. He is living next-door to Charles W. and Jennie Bodine. It is a guess, but I'm sure these are the two sons of William H. Bodine and Deliah Rittenhouse who I did have listed as John Bodine (b. about 1843 in NJ) and Charles W. Bodine (b. about 1847 in NJ). I will go with that for now.

There is a John E. Bodine buried at Sandy Ridge Cemetery who died on March 22, 1895 at the age of 53-3-9. That would make his date of birth Dec 13, 1841. This is the cemetery where is father and grandfather are. I'm sure it must be him. Carol also thinks he married a Jane H. (b. abt 1843). Brian Bodine later sent me an image of John's tombstone. It gives his dates as 1842-1895. His wife on the stone is Jane H. Everett. Her dates are 1842-1931. Here is a picture of that stone sent to me by Brian Bodine:

Gravestone of John E. Bodine

This image is too small to read clearly, but Brian Bodine sent me this transcription:

John E. Bodine 1842-1895
Jane H. Everett his wife 1842-1931
Caroline W. Bodine 1869-1950
Hannah R. Wood 1875-1954

This John is in the 1870 Census of Sergeantsville, Delaware, Hunterton County, too. His name is John E. Bodine. He and Jane are 27. The name of his daughter appears to be Aksah and his other daughter is Caroline. Aksah is three and Caroline is 8/12.

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1900, Jane H. Bodine, age 58 and widowed, lived in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Frank and Delilah Fisher, in Delaware Township, Hunterdon County. She reported that she had borne 4 children and all were then living. In 1910, now aged 69, Jane still lived with the Fishers, but now reported that one of her four children was no longer living. In Jan 1920, she was aged 77 and still living with the Fishers in Stockton and in April 1930 was aged 88 and yet living with the Fishers.
