The Bridgeton Evening News of 13 Jan 1888 reported the marriage of "In this city, Jan. 1st, 1888, by Rev. W. D. Stultz, Freedom Haywood to Alice W. Bodine, both of Bridgeton." Freedom and Alice Haywood were buried in Alton City Cemetery.

Invalidism which dated over 12 years was terminated by death Sunday of Mrs. Alice Haywood, 67. wife of Freedom Haywood of 1323 Pearl street. Mrs. Haywood died at 3 p.m. in St. Anthony's Infirmary where she had been moved Saturday evenlng when she took an unexpected turn for the worse. Mrs. Haywood was born In Fairton, N. J., and had she lived until July 30, would have observed her sixty-eighth birthday. For 39 years she had been a resident of Alton. Besides her husband, one daughter, Mrs. William Vohs of Alton, and two grandchildren, survive. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Emma Harris of Niagara Falls, N. Y., Mrs. Hannah Brown, of Coshocton, O., and one brother, Thomas Bodine of Bridgeton, N.J. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m., from the Streeper funeral home. After 11 a. m. Tuesday and until time of the funeral the body may be seen at the funeral home. [Note: Although the obituary stated she was born in Fairton, her Cumberland County birth record stated it was Taunton.]

Freedom Haywood, 83, a retired glassblower and an Owens-Ilinois Glass Co. employee for 45 years, died Sunday at 11:35. p. m., at his residence, 1323 Pearl. He had been ill since early last September, and bedfast for the past three weeks. Born In Glassboro, N. J., Oct. 15, 1863, Haywood spent his early life in the east. He Had resided in Alton for 52 years and for 45 years had been employed at Owens-Illinois. He retired seven years ago. His wife, Mrs. Alice Haywood, died 12 years ago, and he had resided at the Pearl street address with a daughter, Mrs. Stella Vohs. Surviving in addition to his daughter, are a brother, Irvln Haywood, of New Jersey and two grandchildren. Mr. Haywood was a member of Twelfth Street Presbyterian Church and pastor of the church, the Rev. Paul S. Krebs, will officiate at the funeral rites Wednesday at 2 p. m., in Streeper funeral home. Burial will be In Alton cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
