Notes for: Howard Watson Bodine

Here is something that was sent to me from the card files at the Hunterdon County Historical Society:

Bodine Reunion 1909 at Island Park, near Easton, Pa. through the efforts of J. V. Bodine.
Those present were: Jane Bodine, Miss Carrie Bodine, Miss Lucy Bodine (Sandy Ridge ), Mrs. Lewis Bodine of Englishtown, Mr. & Mrs Walt Bodine of Philadelphia, Mr. & Mrs. Howard Bodine -- Grandson of Howard Bodine, Trenton, NJ.

Note: These people may be related to Charles W. Bodine (husband of Hannah Shadinger). The Howard Bodine may be his son. If so, this tells me that Howard would be the grandson of William H. Bodine and that the "H" stands for "Howard." This is only a guess however. Here are my guesses as to who else was there: Mr & Mrs Walt Bodine could be Charles "W." Bodine (husband of H. Shadinger). Maybe the "W" stands for "Walter." Mrs. Lewis Bodine is the wife of Charles's son, Lewis. Carrie and Jane would be daughters of William H. Bodine. I'm not sure who Lucy or J. V. Bodine are.

From Ronny Bodine:

Howard Bodine, a carpenter, lived with his family 1900 in Passaic, Passaic County, New Jersey. He reported that in 3 years of marriage his wife had borne one child, then living with them. In 1910-1920, the family lived in Trenton, Mercer County where in 1910 Howard still worked as a carpenter, but in 1920 as an armorer. On 12 Sept 1918, Howard Watson Bodine registered for the World War I draft in Trenton, Mercer County. In 1930, Howard and Bertha Bodine lived in Hamilton, Mercer County where Howard was the armory caretaker. Bertha (Schank) Bodine was the daughter of John Liscomb and Mary E. Schank.

The "Trenton Evening Times" of 23 April 1938 reported "Friends Honor Major Bodine Upon Retirement from Guard." "Major Howard W. Bodine was honored last night at a testimonial dinner in the Trenton Country Club by officers of his regiment, the 119th Medical, and other friends of the New Jersey National Guard. For the past 25 years he has been armorer in charge of the Trenton Armory. He enlisted as a private in the State Infantry in 1893 and had been a captain in the 119th Medical Regiment since its organization in 1922. The toastmaster was Colonel George A. Enion, commanding officer of the regiment. Lieutenant Colonel Leslie A. Yeager, regimental executive officer, presented to Major Bodine a gold leaf insignia of his new rank."
