In April 1930, Bob Bodine, age 21 and single, lived with his parents in Springfield and worked as a salesman for an ice making machine company. In 1953 Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, Ill.) conferred upon him the degree of Honorary Doctor of Divinity. He served as Pastor of the First Methodist of Carthage 1946-1950; Pastor of the First Methodist Church of Peoria in the 1950s and later the Metropolitan Methodist Church of Detroit.

The Rev. Robert Harvey Bodine, 65, of Detroit, died Tuesday at a Detroit hospital. He was born in Springfield, Mo., and had lived in the Kansas City area four years. He was the pastor of the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, Detroit, and a former pastor of the Oak grove Methodist Church, Oak Grove in Jackson County. Dr. Bodine was graduated from Drury College and received his Doctor of Divinity degree from Northwestern University. He did graduate work at the Garrett Biblical Institute and Princeton University. He had held pastorates in Springfield, Carthage, Mo., and Lebanon, Mo. He was a member of the Detroit Conference of the United Methodist Church, and was past president of the Wranglers, Detroit. Mr. Bodine was a member of the Palestine Lodge No. 357, the King Cyrus Chapter No. 133 Royal Arch Masons, the Detroit Commandery No. 1, the Knights Templar and Detroit Athletic Club. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lyla Swegart Bodine, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Ann Willcutt, Boston, and Mrs. Elizabeth Weinberger, Columbus, Ohio; a brother, John L. Bodine, Kirkwood, Mo., and five grandchildren. A service of celebration will be at 11 a.m. today at the church. Mr. Bodine had willed his body to science. The family suggests contributions to the church.

Lyla Bodine married 2ndly, Deke Bellinger and 3rdly, Harold A. Inwood (1906-2005).

Brevard, N.C. - Lyla Inwood, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at her home. Mrs. Inwood was born Dec. 10, 1911 in Missouri. She was a teacher in public schools. She served numerous Methodist parishes in Missouri, Illinois and Michigan and was very active with the United Methodist Church. She and her late husband's love story was featured in the Transylvania Times several years ago. She volunteered in Girl Scouts, Red Cross, Reading for the Blind, American Cancer Society and hospital auxiliaries. She served on the state boards of Illinois and Michigan PEO (a philanthropic, education organization) becoming Michigan State President in 1975. She helped bring the PEO Sisterhood to Brevard by chartering Chapter BT. She was published in a number of magazines and papers. She married Robert Harvey Bodine, who preceded her in death in 1973. She later married Deke Bellinger, who preceded her in death a year later. She married her last husband, Hal Inwood, when she was 75 and he was 80. Survivors include her husband, Harold; and numerous children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec, 31 at the First United Methodist Church, 500 N. Broad St., Brevard, NC 28712. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the church or to PEO, Chapter BT, 125 Fox Cross Drive, Brevard NC 28712. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore Funeral Home, Brevard, N.C.
