BROWN, JOHN M., 79, beloved father, quietly passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2009 after a long illness.

John, along with his twin brother Charles, was born on May 22, 1930 in Beaver Dam, KY, to John Hollis Brown and Mary Jane (Thompson) Brown. John and Charles graduated from St. Bonifice in 1945. John graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1949, where he was "Captain Johnny" of the St X Baseball State Champions team ('49) as well as playing on the St Xavier State Runner up Basketball team, where he developed many life-long friendships with his teammates. Upon graduation, John was given a baseball scholarship to Campbellsville College where he attended for one year before entering the service. John served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After discharge, he graduated from Bellarmine College with a B.S. degree in History and began a career with Falls City Brewery where he became the Master Brewer and eventual Vice President of the company. As brew master, John developed the products, Drummond and Brothers and "Billy" Beer. While at Fall City he also earned a Masters Degree in Brewing Science from the University of Chicago. John married Marion MacDonald in 1956 and together they raised four children. Mr. Brown was an active member of St Raphael Parish where he coached baseball, leading various team to City Championships.

Mr. Brown is survived by his children, Robert Brown (Phuong), Barbara Dayton (John), Thomas Brown (Rose) and James Brown, his twin brother Charles (Eunice) and eldest brother, Hilary Brown. In addition, John is survived by six loving grandchildren, Maura and Morgan Dayton, Eleanore, Audrey and Lowell Thomas Brown and Katie Brown.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Highland Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road and at 10 a.m. with a service Monday at 11 a. m. at the Highland Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Xavier Scholarship Fund.
