On 12 Sept 1917, Eugene Augustus Hoeltzel registered for the World War 1 draft in Marshall, Michigan. He reported he was born 5 Sept 1873, worked as a farmer, and that Maud E. Hoeltzel was his next of kin.

MARSHALL---Eugene L. Hoeltzel, 78, of 310 West Michigan avenue, died Sunday afternoon at Oaklawn hospital, where he has been a patient for one week. He had been in ill health for about one year. Mr. Hoeltzel was born Sept. 5, 1872, in Newark, N.Y., son of Frederick and Dorothy Hoeltzel. He lived in Newark until coming to Burlington township with his parents in 1880. He and Miss Maude Bodine were married in Marshall June 25, 1895, and the couple made their home here. Mr. Hoeltzel was the owner of the former stone barn, which is now the town hall, during the early part of the century. Surviving are his wife, Maude; three sons, Donald of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Daryl of Marshall and DeWitt of Detroit, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kelser funeral home, with the Rev. John L. Knapp officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery.

MARSHALL---Mrs. Maude E. Hoeltzel, 89, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who formerly lived at 24 N. Kalamazoo Ave. here, died yesterday in Florida where she had been making her home with her son Donald for the past few years. She was born March 28, 1876, in Marshall, a daughter of William Henry and Victoria Adelaide (Markham) Bordine. She was married to Eugene Hoeltzel in 1894, and they spent most of their married life in Marshall. Mr. Hoeltzel died in 1951. Mrs. Hoeltzel was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and an honorary member of the Marshall Country Club. She helped organize and was first president of the Auxiliary to the American Legion Post here. In Fort Lauderdale she was a member of the Plantation Women's Club and the Book Club. She is survived by three sons, Donald of Fort Lauderdale, Daryl F. of Charlottesville, Va., and DeWitt Paul of Detroit; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
