Dear Dave,

Below is the family history as I know it. If you can connect any of it to some of your records I would be extremely happy as I have not been able to get any further info. If we are connected in any way, I will send you the children, grand children and great grand children of Lavern and Carlos. John David Bodine had a cousin George Bodine in Mt. Victory, Ohio.

Amos Bodine was born 1853 in Hardin Co., Ohio, and died 1928 in Marion, Ohio, at the age of 72 yrs. 2 mo. and 12 da. He is buried in Hale Cemetery on the North side of state route 273, west of Mt. Victory, east of township road 179.

Amos married Lydia Kipp.

Children of Amos Bodine and Lydia Kipp are:

- Bertha Bodine, b. 1877, Hardin Co., Ohio; d. October 1896 Hardin Co., Ohio; buried in Hale Cemetery, Mt. Victory, Ohio; m. Joseph E. Westbrook, son of Sidney Westbrook and Sartie.

- Clara Belle Bodine, b. March 25,1882, Hepburn, Hardin Co., Ohio; d. 1940, LaRue, Hardin Co., Ohio; buried in Hale Cemetery; m. John L. Shaw, Dec 23, 1904 in LaRue, Hardin Co., Ohio.

Child of Bertha Bodine and Joseph E. Westbrook:

- John David Westbrook, b. Oct. 6, 1896, Mt. Victory, Hardin Co., Ohio; d. June 16, 1970, Kenton, Hardin Co., Ohio; buried in Wolfcreek Cemetery on Rt. 31, south of Kenton, Ohio.

John David Westbrook was raised by Amos Bodine and Lydia Kipp when his mother died at his birth. His father went to Michigan to live, marry and later had a son named Merle Westbrook.

John David Westbrook was raised by the name of John David Bodine. As an adult he found out that he was a Bodine by blood, but that he was born with the surname of Westbrook, so, in September 8, 1941, he had his name legally changed to Bodine. John David married Grace Thelma Deerwester, Jan 5, 1920 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the daughter of Manley Deerwester and Mary (Mayme) Baker.

Children of John David Bodine and Grace Thelma Deerwester:

- Robert Leon Bodine, b. May 14, 1922 in Hardin Co., Ohio; d. July 11, 1935, in Kenton, Hardin Co., Ohio; buried in Wolfcreek Cemetery, south of Kenton, Ohio.

- LaVerne Bertha Bodine, b. October 15, 1925; m. Willard Holland Jan 25, 1946 in Kenton, Hardin Co., Ohio.

- Carlos Lee Bodine, b. Mar 4, 1928 in Kenton, Ohio; m. Patsy Bernice Bodine Dec. 27, 1952 in Freemont, Indiana. She was the daughter of Andrew J. Dunahue, Sr. and Elsie Osborn.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my inquiry.

Subject: Correction for father of Joseph Westbrook in Bodine genealogy

Dear Dave,

With further research on the Westbrook branch of our Bodine Family Tree, I found:

that our Joseph P. Westbrook, born abt 1872 in Clairborne, Union Co., OH and died in Michigan. He was married to Bertha E. Bodine on May 28, 1894 in Union Co., Ohio, daughter of Amos Bodine and Lydia Kipp.

His brother, Sidney W. Westbrook was born between 1857 and 1859. He died Nov. 18, 1937 in Central Lake, MI.

Sidney Westbrook and brother Joseph Westbrook were the sons of David Westbrook who was born in 1835 in Ohio. He married Lura (Luly) Westbrook who was born in 1835 in Ohio.

David Westbrook can be found in the 1880 U.S. Federal Census in Claiborne, Union Co., Ohio on page 197A. David Westbrook enlisted as a Private on May 2, 1864 at age of 29. He enlisted in Co. I, 135th Infantry Regiment Ohio May 9, 1864. Mustered out on Sept. 1, 1864 in Camp Chase, Ohio.

Sorry for the wrong information.

Dear Dave,

...

Joseph Westbrook was buried in Michigan not Ohio. He remarried and lived in Grand Rapids for some years but do not know exact cemetery he was buried in.
He was listed in the 1920 Census, Michigan, Atrim Co., Bellaire Village Westbrook, Joseph P. Head, owned own home, no mortgage, 48 yr old, could read and write, born in Ohio as were both his parents, Salesman, worked from his home. His second wife was Flora L., 42 yr old, could read and write, was born in Ohio as were her parents. Son Merle was 16 yr old attended school, could read & write, was born in MI, parents born in Ohio.

You still have his brother Sidney listed in the index but not on the sheet of David Westbrook. Sidney was his son and a brother to Joseph. I sure wish I could have found as much information on Joseph as I did on Sidney.

Obit: Sidney Westbrook died Nov. 18, 1937. He was born in Hardin Co., Ohio April 12, 1857. Sept. 17, 1879 he married Sarah E. Ellenwood of Richwood, Ohio. They came to Antrim Co., MI in 1902. .He moved to Grand Rapids, MI where he was superintendent of the county farm for 7 years. Sidney was buried in Southern cemetery, Central Lake, MI.

Sarah (Ellinwood) Westbrook, died Oct. 3, 1946 at age 91 at Central Lake, MI. Born in Delaware Co., Ohio Aug. 28, 1855. In 1879, married Sidney Westbrook who died in 1937.
