Shirley (Galiher) Bodine was the daughter of Hershell Woodrow and Dorothy Senkint (Vaughn) Galiher.

Shirley Jean Bodine, 71, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at her home in Mt. Vernon. She was born Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1940, in Jefferson County, to Herschel "Slim" Woodrow and Dorothy (Senkint) Galiher. Mrs. Bodine has been cremated and no other services will be held. The Bodine family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Shirley is survived by her son, Wes Bodine and special friend Joyce Stanley of Mt. Vernon; three daughters, Denise Huggins and husband Charles of Mt. Vernon, Deborah Smith and husband Mark of Mt. Vernon and Cynthia Schmidt and husband David of Mt. Vernon; eight sisters, Patricia Joann Fuller of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mary Capps of Mt. Vernon, Sharon Briggs of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Carol Webb of Mt. Vernon, Joyce Wade and husband Clint of Dahlgren, Vickie Porter and husband David of Mt. Vernon and Doris Ozee and husband Ron of Chickasha, Okla.; a brother, Carl Galiher and wife Nora of Mt. Vernon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents; one son, Roy Bodine; three brothers, Jackie, Donald and James Galiher, preceded her in death. Shirley was a Hucks cashier in Mt. Vernon until retiring. She loved fishing, loved her pets and her family was very special to her. Jerry L. Bodine "Boogie," 82, of Mount Vernon, died at 9:32 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his daughter's home in Mount Vernon. Jerry was born May 3, 1935 in Jefferson County, Illinois, the son of Luther Lynn and Dollie Alice (Mathus) Bodine. He was a retired roofer and a farmer and had served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Jerry is survived by his children, Wesley N. Bodine and wife, Joy, Denise Huggins and husband, Charles, Deborah Smith and husband, Mark, and Cindy Schmidt and husband, David, all of Mount Vernon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Lampp and husband, Wesley of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roy Allen Bodine; brothers, Harry Bodine, Robert Bodine, and Harvey Bodine; sisters, Betty Ilbery and Ruth Ann Brooks; infant sister, Christine; and grandson, Robert McGuire. Jerry was a lifetime member of the VFW and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County. Burial will follow the services. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by members of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Memorial contributions in Jerry's memory can be made to the American Legion Post #141 of Mount Vernon and SSM Health at Home Hospice and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
