SPEARS, GEORGIA H., age 82, of Hilton Head Island, SC and formerly of Richmond, Va., died Saturday, February 20, 1999. Mrs. Spears is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Spears; a son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Jan Spears of Hilton Head Island and formerly of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzie S. and Randy Donaldson of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Roberta Dykstra of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Michael Spears and Cary and Julie Donaldson; and a niece, Robin. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, at St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions to St. Andrew By-the-Sea United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 20 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. The Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head Island is in charge of arrangements.

SPEARS, WILLIAM, age 83, of Hilton Head, SC, died Saturday, February 19, 2000. Born in Grand Rapids, MI, he was the son of the late William H. and Alene Morrice Spears, Sr. He moved to Hilton Head Island in 1997 from Richmond, Virginia. He was a graduate of Northwestern University with an Engineering degree. He married Georgia Helen Bodine in 1939. He designed torpedoes and worked on the Manhattan Project. He worked for Reynolds Aluminum for thirty four years including a 2 and 1/2 year assignment in Tokyo. He was the Chief Engineer for the McCook Plant in Chicago and also for the Mitsubishi Plant in Atami. He then became head of Aluminum Recycling Worldwide, with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. He lived in Richmond from 1964 to 1997. He served as a long term volunteer at the Virginia Science Museum in Richmond; and served in many volunteer capacities at River Road United Methodist Church in Richmond. He played french horn for the DuPape Symphony in Chicago and others for fifty years. Mr. Spears is survived by his son, George Spears and his wife, Jan and their children, Jennifer and Michael; and by his daughter, Suzie and her husband, Randy Donaldson and their children, Cary and Julie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia, in February 1999 and his sister, Virginia Frank. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew-by-the-Sea United Methodist Church, Hilton Head Isl., SC.
