Daniel Harvey Bodine was elected Sheriff on November 5, 1912, taking office on January 1, 1913. Bodine was born in Albany, Oregon on December 21, 1865. His parents were pioneers who crossed the plains by wagon train from Indiana to Albany in 1850. He attended high school in the city and graduated in 1897 from Oregon Agriculture College, now known as Oregon State University. He was a star athlete, playing on the college football team for four years. Bodine, prior to becoming Sheriff, owned and farmed land east of Albany until elected Sheriff in 1912. He went on to win the election of Sheriff for two more terms. Sheriff Bodine served for six years. Bodine later served as City Recorder from 1920-1924. He conducted a drive for funds, founding the Children's Farm Home near Corvallis, Oregon. Bodine passed away on October 10, 1944 while living in Albany.

Daniel Harvey Bodine, 78, three times sheriff of Linn county, a native of Albany and a resident of this city and immediate vicinity all his life, was called by death at his home at 727 East Fourth street at 7 p.m., Oct. 9th, following a lingering illness. He was born Dec. 21st, 1865, his parents being pioneers who crossed the plains by wagon train in 1850. He was graduated from Oregon State college in 1897 and was a star athlete, playing on the college football team for four years. On leaving college he engaged in farming and was president and a member of Albany state bank from 1912 to 1918. Following his terms as sheriff, he was city recorder of Albany from 1920 to 1924, when he returned to his farm east of Albany which he operated until a year and a half ago when he returned with his family to Albany. He was a gold sheaf member of Grand Prairie grange, the oldest grange in the state, which his parents helped to organize. He assisted for two years in raising funds for the founding of the Children's Farm home. He served as chairman of the county republican central committee for several years. He was a member of the Maccabees lodge at the time of his death. He was married in Portland June 25, 1913 to Lola Reid Jordan, who survives him, as do two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Bangs and Geraldine Bodine, both of Albany; and the following nieces: Mrs. Watt Peck and Bertha Bodine of Portland, Mrs. Lee Burkhart, Mrs. Chester Hite and Mrs. Addie Rickard of Albany, Mrs. Antone Hole of Marshfield and Mrs. Margaret Safley of Eugene. Funeral services are to be held from the Fisher funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, with Rev. Alan Banks officiating. Interment will be made in the family lot in the Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Lola J. Bodine, 75, widow of a former Linn County sheriff and Albany city recorder, died early today following a short illness. She succumbed at her home, 727 E. 4th Ave. Her husband, the late Harvey Bodine, was sheriff from 1912 to 1918 and later became city recorder. Mrs. Bodine was his assistant at both offices. For 33 years she had served as a member of the board of trustees and as secretary of the Corvallis office of the Children's Farm Home of the WCTU. She retired from this post two years ago. Mrs. Bodine was born March 1, 1883, in Shelby County, Ind. She attended Valparaiso Normal college and Minnesota university. She taught school for several years before coming to Albany in 1913. She was married to Mr. Bodine in Portland on June 25, 1913. He died Oct. 9, 1944. She was a member of the Methodist church, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Macabees and the Albany WCTU. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Bangs and Geraldine Bodine, both of Albany, and two granddaughters. Private services will be held at Fisher funeral home Friday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
