Hi-

Appreciate your research and resources for Bodine genealogy. I'm on the road for a vacation thru Monday, but wanted to connect.

I'm descended of Jean/John Bodin, Francis Bodine and Mary Dey, John Bodine and Dorcas, John V and Elizabeth Cruser, David M Bodine and Mary Pike, Milton Cogswell Bodine and Nellie Quirk, Milton Joseph Beaudine and Mary Conway, etc, etc

Looking forward to sharing info and coordinating...

Thanks, Dave!

He's my third great grandfather.

--Grandfather, Robert J Beaudine
--Great Grandfather, Milton J Beaudine
--2nd Great Grandfather, Milton Cogswell Beaudine
--3rd Great Grandfather David M Bodine

The change to "Beaudine" appears to have happened around the same time as the infamous "Witch of Staten Island," Polly Bodine story. It was national headlines for many months/year, and according to a person at the Dutch Reformed Church of Staten Island, she suggested that the name change might be a simple attempt at confusing the connection?!

From Ronny Bodine:

He was named in his father's will of 2 Oct 1824 and was a minor on 27 Aug 1836 when Isaac R. Housman was appointed his guardian. He was named by his brother Cornelius in his will of 13 June 1842.

From Albany (N.Y.) Argus of Monday, 13 April 1846:
David and Mary Jane Bodine were named as defendants in a civil action involving the estate of his grandfather, John Bodine. This is the earliest evidence of their having been married.

It appears from the following newspaper notice that David Bodine disappeared, voluntarily or otherwise, as he cannot be found in the 1870 census. His wife Mary engaged attorneys to bring her husband to court, likely to initiate a divorce action, and this notice appeared in several successive weekly issues. There is no evidence that David came forth or was located and no record of his death. Thereafter, Mary Bodine considered herself a widow.
