Notes for: Lewis Lawshe Bodine

I did have that he was born about 1834, possibly in Canal Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. This came from FamilySearch.com. Other information came later from Steve Heasley saying that Lewis was born in Michigan in 1842 and died in 1913 near Franklin, Pennsylvania. Steve said he was the son of Isaac Bodine and Elizabeth Lawshee and that he married Lucinda Heasley and had one daughter, Elizabeth Bodine. Steve's email is "hheasley at pennswoods.net".

From Ronny Bodine:

Lewis Bodine and his family were living 1910-1930 in Frenchcreek Township, Venango County where Lewis engaged in farming. He reported that in 42 years of marriage, Lucinda had borne 3 children, but only 1 was then living. In 1920, Lucy Bodine, age 74, and now widowed, headed a household that included William and Lizzie McCaughtry. In 1930, it was Lucy Bodine, now 85, who lived with the McCaughtrys. Obituary, The News-Herald (Franklin, PA) of Tuesday, 12 Jan 1937.
Mrs. Lucy Bodine, 92, widow of the late Lewis L. Bodine, whose father was one of the pioneer settlers in the western part of Venango County, died at 11:30 o'clock Monday night at her home at Bodine's Corners, Georgetown Road, after a long illness. Mrs. Bodine suffered a fractured hip in a fall 13 years ago, and had been an invalid since that time. The aged woman was one of the early school teachers of Venango County, having taught for 25 terms during her teaching career. She was born in Venango County, June 18, 1844, and spent her entire life in the county. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Heasley, and was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Bodine had resided at Bodine's Corners for 60 years. Her husband died 23 years ago. The Georgetown Road community was named after Mr. Bodine's father. The family was well-known in that section of Venango County but there are few persons of Mrs. Bodine's generation surviving her. Besides being the last surviving child of Samuel Heasley, Mrs. Bodine is survived by only one daughter, Mrs. W. E. McCaughtry, with whom she resided at Bodine's Corners. The body will remain at the late home until noon Thursday, when it will be brought to the H. L. Buchanan Funeral Home in Franklin for funeral services at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. Dr. A. C. Locke, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.

Burials in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Venango County.
