24. Harris Soper GREENO, born 7 Aug. 1832, Millport, Chemung Co., NY, (Samuel,Daniel) he went to Michigan with his parents but returned east following their death, living with a brother in Owego, Tioga Co., NY, where he attended Owego Academy. He signed on as a hospital steward and bookkeeper with the Panama Railroad Company, spending six months there, and then studied medicine for a year before opening a dry-goods business at Roseville, Tioga Co., Pa., and married in neighboring Wellsboro 28 Aug. 1855, Sarah Elizabeth BODINE, daughter of Ellis M. and Margaret (SHEARER) BODINE. When his store burned, he returned to his studies, in the medical department in the University of Pennsylvania, and following graduation, in 1857 moved to Amboy, Lee Co., Ill. In Aug. 1858, he moved to Osawatomie, Kansas, and then in the fall of 1859 to Ft. Scott, Barbour Co., Kan. He enlisted in 1861 in the 6th Kansas Cav., in which he held the rank of Capt., and was wounded twice. He later recruited and became Major, then brevit Colonel in the 4th Arkansas Cav. Following the War (and perhaps before) he set up business as doctor and dentist in Topeka, and in Mar. 1877 moved to Kansas City, Mo., then in 1882 to Chicago. He was in Scott Co., Tenn. by 1890, and was still there in 1900, but moved again, to Fairhopes, Baldwin Co., Ala., where he was living in 1912.

The Tioga County Agitator of 6 Sept 1835 reported "Married at the residence of the bride in Delmar on the 28th of August by Rev. J. F. Calkins, Mr. H. S. Green & Miss Sarah E. Bodine." A graduate of the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1857, he entered the Union service as Captain of Company C, 6th Kansas Volunteers. He was promoted to Major in 1864 and was mustered out at Little Rock, Arkansas on 3 July 1865. Shortly afterwards he was brevetted Colonel by the President for meritorious conduct during the war. He practiced medicine after the war and in 1877 moved to Kansas City, Missouri. The family moved in 1882 to Chicago. He was in Scott Co., Tenn. by 1890, and was still there in 1900 in Helenwood, practicing medicine. He moved again, to Fairhope, Baldwin County, Alabama where he was serving as mayor in 1910 and where he was living in 1912.
