Notes for: Frederick ("Fred") Milton Bodine, M.D.

There is a Fred M. Bodine mentioned in the 1910 Census Index of Pennsylvania. He is living in Tioga County. He is 42 and his wife, Mary, is 40. He was born in Pennsylvania and she was born in New York. Their daughter, Helen S., is 14 and was born in Pennsylvania. I'm assuming that Helen was the same as "Ellen." Info on Ellen comes from WorldConnect at RootsWeb. Fred was a dentist.

Here is some info taken from "The History of Tioga County, Pa., Volume #2", found in the Green Free Library, Wellsboro, Pa.; dated 1897. My appreciation to Catherine (Bodine) Shumway and Janet (Murtland) Bodine for this information.

Obituary, Wellsboro Gazette (Wellsboro, Pa.) of 9 Oct 1941.
Following a three year period of poor health and a summer of illness, Dr. Frederick Milton Bodine died at his home on West avenue last Thursday afternoon. Born in Wellsboro September 28, 1858, the son of Abram L. and Julia Tillotson Bodine, Dr. Bodine spent practically all his life here where he attended the schools and graduated. He then went to Philadelphia where he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania College of Dentistry. He was a charter member of Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity and was its first president. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a Mason. On August 22, 1893 he was married to Miss Adelaide Shaw who survives with one daughter, Helen, Mrs. Edward Gale, of Utica, N.Y. Two brothers, William T. and Attorney H. E. Bodine, both of Wellsboro, also survive. Dr. Bodine had practiced dentistry for the past 48 years here and only closed his office last June when failing health prevented him from making his daily walk to his work. A familiar figure on Main street and to and from work on West avenue the doctor always walked by preference many times refusing rides offered by his less ambitious neighbors. He was a friendly, pleasant man interested in the progress of his friends and especially in the changes in the neighborhood. He was a man devoted to his home and family and will be missed by his many friends. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at the Evans & Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Orrin G. Cocks, D.D., officiating. Burial in the Wellsboro cemetery.
