MRS. HENRIETTA BODINE

Mrs. Henrietta Bodine, 77, passed away Saturday evening, September 17, 1935, at her home on Elmira Street.

The daughter of Philetus and Sophrona Phelps Dorsett, she was born at Upper Lambs Creek January 14, 1858. March 20, 1879 she was married to Frederick A. Bodine, and moved to a farm at Canoe Comp. She resided there for a short time, when she moved to Mansfield, where she spent the remainder of her life, nearly all of the years in the Bodine home on Sherwood Street.

Mrs. Bodine possessed a sturdy Christian character that endeared her to all who knew her, and helped to sustain her through the darkness that marked the last thirteen years of her life. She bore her affliction with Christian fortitude and ever had a cheery word and smile for those who greeted her. She was one of the oldest members of the Methodist Church and attended services as long as her health would permit.

Survivors are a daughter, Miss Martha D. Bodine of 170 Fenimore Street, Brooklyn, N.Y., and a brother George W. Dorsett of Jersey Shore.

The funeral was held at the home Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Douglas W. Baylis, of the Methodist church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. D. J. Griffiths, of the Baptist Church. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery.

DORSETT - Death of Philetus Raymond Dorsett, One of Mansfield's Oldest and Most Highly Esteemed Residents. -With the passing of Philetus Raymond Dorsett, who lived in his Sherwood street at 7 o,clock on Sunday evening last, Tioga lost a pioneer and Mansfield one of her oldest and most highly esteemed residents- a kindly gentleman of the old school, whose sunny nature and daily practice of the golden rule made friendships which lasted as long as life. He was devoted to his home and to his church-the Methodist of which he was a member for more than fifty years. T7hen Mr Dorsett came to Pennsylvania, on June 8, 1830, and settled on Lamb,s Creek, that section was a wildness, with nothing but blazed paths as ways of ingress and egress. Thirty-six years ago he came to Mansfield, .where he everafter lived, and was of our best citizenship. Death came follow a long and painful illness, which he bore with true Christian fortitude. He waged a brave battl against ill health, and, by sheer force of his great will-power, was able to be out until a few weeks prior to his demise.

Mr. Dorsett was born in Peekskill, N.Y., March 24, 1820, and was the seventh child of David and Catherine Hickman Dorsett, the eighth, Hickman Dorsett, of this boro, now being the sole survivor. The others were Urhetta, John, Harry, Ann, Mary and Samuel. Philetus was married on November 7, 1849, to Sophronia Adelia Phelps, by the Rev. O. Trowhridge. To them five children were born, two of whom , Ella May and Charles Henry , died in childhood; Catherine a. (Mrs Charles Holden, of Corning, N.Y.) George W. of Jersey Shore,Pa., and Henrietta K., (Mrs Bodine of Mansfield.) These surviving children, with one granddaughter, Miss Mattie Bodine, were at the bedside when Mr. Dorsett passed away. He also leaves three other grandchildren.

The funeral will be held from the home this (Wednesday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. Ezra Tinker, pastor of the M. E. church, will conduct the service. Submitted by Joyce M. Tice, September 1998.
