Notes for: Abraham (Abram) Bordine
His mother, Christina Bordine, was living with them at the time of the 1855 Census in Yates. She was 65. Information in the Marlatt file in the Hollinger box says "...m. Caroline Lott (m. 3 times) Branch Co. m. Mahala, 2nd." I'm not sure quite what this means, but I'm guessing it means Abraham was married three times, the first time in Branch County, Michigan and the second time to a Mahala _____. The third time is not given. Maybe Caroline was married three times, but that might be harder to imagine.
In the 1870 Michigan Federal Census (Batavia, Branch Co., p. 33(?), d. 279, f. 280), Abram is listed with his wife, Mahala. He was either 51 and she was 47. Both of them were born in New York. Abram is listed as a farmer worth $5000, $1100. It looks like there was a daughter named Nellie with them, too. She was six years old and born in Michigan. Nellie would probably be Mahala's daughter; although, Mahala would have been about 41 years old when she was born. That's possible.
In the 1880 Census of Batavia, daughter Nellie Bordine (16, MI, NY, NY) is listed along with Abram Bordine's granddaughter, Nellie J. Bordine. She is 10 and born in MI. Her father was born in MI and her mother in NY. Another granddaughter, Gertie A. Bordine, is also listed. She is 3 and born in MI. Her father was born in MI and her mother in NY. She must be Nellie J.'s sister.
There was also an Ellen Redpath or Rudolph from Scotland, age 52, in their household. She may have been a maid, but her occupation is crossed out.
There may be a Sutphen listed in the Census right above Abram Bordine. It's hard to read. He was 74 and born in New York.
Here is a message from the Genforum Bodine Forum from Margaret Clark. I think it might apply to this Abraham's daughter Nellie Bodine:
I'm trying to trace my Berdine/Bodine ancestry. My great grandmother was Cornelia Lefferts Berdine from New Brunswick, New Jersey, daughter of Abram Berdine who "died young".
We have an album of pictures labelled as follows: Charles Berdine, Aunt Mary and Uncle John B, Uncle John in fireman's clothes, Uncle Charles, Libby Berdine Outcalf (sp?) and baby Will, Little Aunt Mary, Bill Berdine, and Uncle Pete Cornell's daughter. We also have a letter from Miss Nellie Bodine, 423 Trinity Place, Elizabeth, NJ. Elderly relatives tell me that my great grandmother visited family graves on Staten Island. Thanks for any help! Mahala Sophia Bordine, widow, dau. of Alexander White & Sally Wilson, born New York, died 21 May 1900 in Batavia, Branch County, aged 76.

Case File 3597. On 6 March 1893, the surviving heirs of Abram Bordine were named as being:
Mahala Bordine, widow, age 70, of Batavia, MI
Milton E. Bordine, son, age 51, of Chester, PA
Alfred Bordine, son, age 47, of Lee, MI.
Nellie J. Darling, daughter, age 29, of Batavia, MI
