Notes for: Elsie Mae Bodine

Her mother and four siblings all died in an accident with a train. They were waiting at a stop when the train left the tracks and hit them. I think that is what happened. Elsie was in school at the time of the accident. Her father was at work. She was eight at the time of her mother's death in 1925; so her birth year must be around 1917.

She and her husband had one child.

Obituary, Journal and Courier (Lafayette, IN) of Wednesday, 10 April 1985.
WILLIAMSPORT---John M. Weidenhammer, 78, of 15 Ross Ave., died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in Meadow Heights Nursing Home, where he was admitted earlier in the day. Mr. Weidenhammer was engaged in farming, and later worked as a smelter at Harrison Steel Castings Co., where he was employed 37 years. He retired in 1973. Born in Warren County, Nov. 21, 1906, he spent all his life there, and moved to Williamsport 56 years ago. He was married in 1934 in Crown Point to Elsie Mae Bodine, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bud (Joyce) Van Dame of Williamsport.

WILLIAMSPORT---Elsie Mae Bodine Weidenhammer, 80, of Williamsport, died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, June 14, in her home. She had been in failing health for the past three years. Mrs. Weidenhammer was a Bell Telephone Co. operator for several years and a cook at Crumley's Restaurant in Williamsport. Born Jan. 28, 1916, in Williamsport, she lived in Williamsport most of her life. She was married on Feb. 21, 1934, in Crown Point to John M. Weidenhammer, an employee of Harrison Steel Castings Co. in Attica. He died in 1985. Mrs. Weidenhammer was a member of Williamsport Christian Church and a charter member of both the Jolly Friends Club and the Victory Bunco Club. Surviving is a daughter, Joyce A. VanDame of Williamsport.
