On 12 Sept 1918, Ned Dice Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Covington, Indiana. He stated he worked as a farmer for William Bodine of Covington who was also his next of kin. In April 1930, Ned and Hella Bodine lived in Covington where both worked as salesmen for a creamery. Ned and Helen and Mary Bodine were buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, Fountain County.

1st marriage--1925--HELEN DOROTHY GOOKINS.

Ned Bodine, born 28 July 1899 in Fountain County, Indiana, son of Jesse & Belle (Dice) Bodine, AND Helen Dorothy Gookins, born 11 Oct 1899 in Veedersburg, Indiana, dau. of Ed & Martha (Jack) Gookins, were married 5 Aug 1925 in Fountain County by Oliver W. McGaughey. Minister.

From Indiana Death Records: Helen Bodine, wife of Ned Bodine and daughter of Ed Gookins and Martha E. Jack, born 11 Oct 1899 in Veedersburg, Indiana; died 21 May 1935 in Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois and buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Ned Bodine, 35, of Covington, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Illinois, at 6:45 A.M. Tuesday, May 21, 1935, following an operation. Mrs. Bodine was taken suddenly ill the last of the week and on Monday was taken to the hospital where she underwent an operation for an obstruction of the bowel. Following the operation she grew steadily worse until death Tuesday. Mrs. Bodine was formerly Miss Helen Gookins, of Veedersburg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gookins, who survive. She was born near Veedersburg October 11, 1899. Besides the parents, her husband and small daughter, Mary Lou, age 2, survive. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church here at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. A. Arthur, Presbyterian minister of Crawfordsville. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Bodine had taken an active part in the church and social life of the community since coming to Covington and had made many warm friends here. She will be sadly missed in the community.

Ned D. Bodine, born 28 July 1899 in Fountain County, Indiana, son of Jesse (Wm. S.) & Manta Belle (Dice) Bodine AND Mary B. Uplinger, born 13 Feb 1909 in Fountain County, dau. of John & Isabelle (Calvert) Uplinger, were married 24 Aug 1940 in Fountain County by Arthur D. Ramsey, Minister.

Mary B. "Aunt Mary" Bodine, 94, Covington, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003 at her residence. Born on February 13, 1909 in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of the late John Elmer and Isabel (Calvert) Uplinger. A 1928 graduate of Hillsboro High School, she was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She married Ned D. Bodine on August 24, 1940. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1981. "Aunt Mary" as she was affectionately known by everyone, had been a seamstress at Windbreaker for 35 1/2 years. She attended Communtiy Bible Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are: as sister, Margaret Uplinger Collins of Hammond; a stepdaughter, Martha Lou Stoker of Lafayette; two nieces, Margaret Sanders, whom she raised, of Covington and Mary Sanders of Hillsboro; several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Byron, John and Arthur Uplinger; and a neice, Lillian Uplinger, whom she raised. Visitation was Monday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. Service there on Tuesday with Rev. David Frazeur officiating. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington. Memorials may be made to Community Bible Baptist Church, 714 E. Division Road, Veedersburg, IN 47987.
