Notes for: Tina Bodine

Tina may have married a Styne/Stine (Voorhees book). The book also says she (he?) was born in 1762.

Hello Dave,

As I mentioned previously, I have numerous CIRCUMSTANTIAL connections between the Fountain County, IN Bodines and the line of Bodines containing Phoebe Bodine (born March 21, 1793) who married Abraham La Tourette (born Nov 4, 1794 - died before 1879 in Somerset, NJ.).

In desperation, I recently tried a different tactic - I took your newly revised data for the oldest known John Bodine (1765 - 1834) the husband of Jane Marlatt (both decidedly connected with the Fountain County Bodines) and I went back through your other Bodine records to try to connect this individual with someone who may have "fallen out of their family tree". The ONLY likely suspect with that birth date data that I could identify was a John Bodine (born about 1760 in Somerset Co., NJ) - and this John just happens to be the Uncle of the previously mentioned Phoebe Bodine. It also states in your records that he was married to an Unknown Stine or Styne. Abraham Marlatt referred to his granddaughter "Polly" ? as the "natural daughter" of his daughter Jane - then it may very possibly fit that this is indeed the same John and that Jane Marlatt was indeed his second wife, with Polly having been born prior to their wedding date (maybe they had to wait for the traveling Minister to perform the ceremony?)? It always confused me how Polly could have been a "natural daughter" to Jane if she was right in the middle of the birth order of about 10 children. Maybe, Polly was in fact Jane's first child? That John's previous children may have been born to this Unknown Stine mother?

It also states in your records, that this John Bodine had a sister by the name of Tina Bodine (maybe "Catrina" after an Aunt by that name?) and that she also married an Unknown Stine or Styne. I did find some data on a Stine family that could very possibly be this Tina (or Catrina) Bodine as the birth date data and location seem to be a reasonable fit??? There is a Cathrin Unknown (born April 25, 1761 died Sept. 13, 1831) who married a Jacob Stine (1756-1786) located in New Jersey. His parents were Jacob Stine and Phoebe Bodine (but there was no additional data was available for either of the parents other than they had at least two children: Jacob and Abraham --- but marriages back and forth between the same families was not totally uncommon, so there is at least another very remote possibility that this Cathrin may in fact have been a Bodine??? ----- maybe they married back and forth between known families just to be very certain their children never married any Tories?). Jacob and Cathrin had the following children: John born Jan. 30, 1781, Jacob born Jan. 5, 1784, and William born 1786.

But, now I am stumped. I believed if I could find Tina's Stine husband (for certain) then I should also be able to find John's Stine wife, as I assume these Stines may very well be siblings or at least cousins. But, there are no sisters listed for this Jacob Stine. I am trying to look through pretty much any marriage files for that time, but I am hard pressed to know what title book or the names of other records to look for.

...

Best Wishes,
Jan Bodine

Okay, your notes from the Voorhees book says the writer of the 1878 letter, S.B. Powell, who was Sarah B. Powell, wife of Ramsom Powell, or John Bodine Thompson, went to visit Mr. Stine in Plainfield, NJ. Okay, only one Stine lived in Plainfield in 1880 and that was William Stine (b. c1820) and his wife Violet (1817-1898). I backtracked him to his father, John Stine, aged 69 in 1850 Warren County, NJ. John died March 1870 in Warren, Somerset County, NJ. That places his birth about 1781 and seems to be the same man as John Stine, born 30 Jan 1781, son of Jacob Stine and wife Cathrin, whom Jan in 2008 thought was Tina Bodine wife of Mr. Stine. I would like to know the source of the birth date for John and his brothers Jacob 5 Jan 1784 and William 1786 and of course the dates for Jacob and Cathrin.
