Notes for: Lloyd Chance Bodine

The following information was edited from a file by Samuel Joseph Bodine.

The third son of Seth and Charlotte Bodine was Lloyd Chance. He was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on January 8, 1899. He was eight or so when the family moved to Missouri. Records exist where Chance and Raymond attended the old OBanon School of New Madrid County. After his dad's death in 1918, when the family moved to town, Chance worked on the River for the Corps of Engineers. He and Jesse "Son" Price often worked on the river on the same boat. At one time, he ran a pool hall in the off season. Later, he and his brother-in-law, Elmer, owned a grocery store; although, neither worked there. Chance married a woman by the name of Irence Tate in the late 1920's, but stayed married only a short time. There were no children by that marriage. He was no longer married at the time his mother died in the early 1930's. When he was home in the early years, he usually stayed with his sister Lena. Chance was in the Service during World War II. He was discharged when those over 38 years of age were no longer required to serve. When he came home, he went back to work on the river. After he retired from the River, he made his home in Caruthersville where he was living when he died August 8, 1968. He died of cancer in Chickosaba Hospital in Blytheville, Arkansas. He is buried in the Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn as are several of his relatives. Chance remained very close to his sisters throughout his life.
