Notes for: Seth Monroe Bodine

My granddad, Seth M. Bodine, was born in Ill. in 1864. He was reared in Texas and returned to Ill. and married Wilmuth Charlotte Green. They had children named Howard, Clarence (my dad), Lena, Effie and Eva(twins), Verba, and Chance in Ill. A son Raymond was born in Mo. Seth died in Mo in 1918 Charlotte in 1933. I would like to find Seth's parents. He had a brother, Uncle Ad, who stayed in Texas. Any help out there would be appreciated.

I later received a file from Sam. The excerpt below is from that file:

As we said Seth Monroe married Charlotte Wilmuth Green in Jefferson County Ill in 1888. The Greens were a large family and had come from Tennessee to Illinois. Charlotte had a number of brothers and sisters. She was the youngest. At the time Seth and Charlotte brought their family to Missouri, around 1907, some of her brothers came and settled around Malden. The mother of Lindy and Billy Mitchum was out of this family...Anyway, Seth and Charlotte married and started farming and raising a family in Illinois. All of the children, with the exception of Raymond Bodine, the youngest, were born in Jefferson County, Illinois. The children of Seth and Charlotte were Howard, born July 1889; Clarence, born Feb. 1891; Lena, born Feb. 1892; Effie and Eva (twins) born Dec. 1894; Verba, born Aug. 1896; Chance born Jan. 1899; and Raymond, who was born in Dec. 1907 in Missouri. To repeat myself, Seth farmed in Illinois and brought his family to Missouri around 1906 or 1907. Raymond was the only child born in Missouri. The family moved south of Point Pleasant or what is now called "Scrub Ridge." It was rich, virgin land and the family farmed there a number of years. Those in school attended the O'Bannon Country School. They attended church at Martin Chapel, a Methodist Church in the vicinity. Seth was a member of the "Modern Woodmen of the World" and considered a good citizen. The obitiuary written by a friend attests to this; although, it has a mistake and lists his death date as 1916 instead of 1918. Howard died in 19l3 from an infection. I remember them saying he died of blood poisoning from a cut. Since we have the family in Missouri, Seth died in March of 1918. He along with Charlotte and their first son are all buried at New Hope Cemetery south of Marston. Charlotte passed away in 1933.

From Ronny Bodine:

When Seth's parents divorced in 1870, Seth went to live with mother. In 1880, he was living with his mother and step-father, Margaret and Lorenzo Munsell, but was recorded as James Bodine, age 15. The Seth Bodine family was living 1900 in Webber, Jefferson County, where Seth engaged in farming. Charlotte stated she had borne 7 children, all then living. In 1930, 'Carlotte' Bodine was living in New Madrid County, Missouri with 3 of her children. Seth and Charlotte Bodine were buried in New Hope Cemetery, near Marston, New Madrid County. Charlotte (Green) Bodine was the daughter of Paulas Uriah and Rhoda A. (Simmons) Green.
