Notes for: Watson R. Bodine

Information from a query (NJ?) by Chris Hankins at foffer@vitrex.net on March 27, 1998. The query came from Hunterdon County, New Jersey's GenWeb page. This must be the Watson who shows up on the 1860 Census by himself in Hunterdon Co., Delaware Twp., NJ. He is 16 years old. Ann Sharp's tombstone says she was Watson R. Bodine's wife. He must be related to the Bodines at Sandy Ridge Cemetery: Benjamin (#17737) and Peter Bodine. Carol says he died in 1917.

Chris (new email: hankinschris@hotmail.com) later sent me a photo in September of 2000 of Watson and Ann's gravestone. It appears below:

Watson R. and Ann (Sharp) Bodine

In the 1850 Census of Delaware Township, Watson Bodine (age 6) appears in the household of Watson Rittenhouse (age 39) and Sarah (age 32). This might be Sarah Wilson. Watson Rittenhouse is probably Watson Bodine's uncle, but that is just a guess.

Carol says that his headstone does look like it says he died in 1919.

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1900-1910, Watson and Ann Bodine lived in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri where Watson worked as a commercial traveller for a rubber company. In 1900, recorded as Watson R. Bodin, he reported that he and his wife Elizabeth had been married 29 years, but had had no children. In 1910, he reported that he and his wife, now named Ann, had been married 39 years but had had no children. According to her Missouri death certificate (no. 1916-21399) Ann Bodine suffered with asthma which contributed towards her death of angina pectoris. She was returned to Stockton, New Jersey for burial and it seems likely that is when Watson relocated back to New Jersey as well. Watson and Elizabeth Bodine were buried in Sandy Ridge Baptist Cemetery, near Stockton, Hunterdon County. Elizabeth (Sharp) Bodine was the daughter of George W. and Elizabeth (Vandolah ) Sharp.
