Here are a couple pictures of the house that is said to have been built by Peter Bodine after he first built a log cabin. These were sent to me by Brian Bodine:
Here is some history of the Sandy Ridge German Baptist Church and the Sand
Brook German Baptist Church. This information came from the Internet. There
are also pictures of these churches at "http://www.njchurchscape.com/". As one
can see, these churches do have a lot in common.
In 1812, the Baptist minister at Flemington was persuaded to spend part of his
time preaching on Sunday afternoons and during the winter on weekdays in the
Sandy Ridge area, about eight miles south of Flemington. The first Sandy Ridge
German Baptist Church was built near the present site in 1818 and the present
church in 1866, at a cost of $5,500. It's a substantial stone structure, 44 x
60, with little ornamentation except for the stained glass windows.
1848, a fellow named Moore led a number of followers in a split from the Sandy
Ridge German Baptist Church a few miles away. This plain stucco over stone
building was erected the following year, in 1849, and was known as the Moorite
Church. It is essentially without adornment, although it has the two front
doors characteristic of the period. When it was photographed several years
ago, there was no floor, a couple of the shutters were barely hanging on, and
several of the windows were broken, but a restoration effort was underway.
One record at the Sandy Ridge Baptist Cemetery says that Peter died in 1810.
The Bible records mentioned below say he died October 10, 1801. I wonder if
the info at the cemetery wasn't added some time after his death by a
well-intentioned family member (who may or may not have been correct).
Official records at the cemetery don't even seem to have been kept until 1819
and the church wasn't constituted until 1818. So any notation in the records
for Peter was probably made years after he was actually buried there.
His stone does appear to be at Sandy Ridge. It is mentioned in the chart of
the cemetery plots, but not in other lists there. His stone is not readable.
It is next to his wife's grave. It looks like it has sunk into the ground
quite a bit; so it's possible that any writing on the stone (if there is
anything) could be buried.
A note in the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine (v. 13, nos. 2-3) says, "An
earth stone marks the place where Peter Bodine is said to have been buried by
the side of his wife. He died from drowning and was supposed to have been
buried elsewhere since the graveyard at Sandy Ridge was not used for burials
until 1819.

Inventory $95.50; made by Robert Sharp and Gershom Lambert. Sworn to by
Isabella Bodine, Adm'x, Nov. 20, 1810. It appears the last two numbers of his
death date are transposed in the Bible. I have a copy of the inventory.
Sabilla Ent's mother is Susannah Moore (Mohr/Moor) who married Valentine Ent.
She is the eleventh of their twelve children. Susannah's parents are Johann
Jacob Mohr and Anna Apolonia Moret.
On your family group sheet for Ann (Anna) Bodine and Adam Case under Sources,
numbers 3 and 6 refer to a letter received from Mary Lou Bartunek. That is me
and I don't remember what I wrote! I will have to look back in my
correspondence. I lost my husband and am now very happily married to Ray
Fisher.

An inventory can be done years after someone dies, but usually it is done soon
afterwards. I would go with the idea that someone wrote the incorrect date in
the Bible or someone transcribed it incorrectly.

Peter Bodine both as 10 Oct 1810 and 10 Oct 1801. The CCHGS does not have the
Case-Bodine Bible you refer to in your E-mail, nor does it have a copy of said
Bible. The Case Genealogy File lists the information that you have listed in
your E-mail. The "Susan B. Case" that you refer to in your E-mail was the
youngest of the 13 children of Adam & Anna (Bodine) Case and was born 2 Feb
1817. She was a Quaker missionary, who went about reading the Quaker faith.
She last lived in Espy where she died (no date) and was buried in the
Creveling Cemetery in Almedia in an unmarked grave. The Case Genealogy File
goes on to mention that the Bible is now in the possession of Miss Susan
Lehman of Espy. She was the daughter of Samuel & Myra (Case) Lehman, and died
in 1948 (unmarried). There is no further mention of the Bible. The Mrs.
Nancy Sweeney that you referred to in your E-mail is still living. She can be
contacted by writting: Mrs. James J.(Nancy) Sweeney, 5660 80th Street -
Apartment A203,St. Petersburg, FL 33709. She might be able to provide more
information about the Case-Bodine Bible.

Mary Lou Fisher later checked with Mrs. Sweeney, but she had not seen the
Bible herself. She had only forwarded information from the Bible that was in
the Case files. She does not know who actually has the Bible.

His wife's stone says, "In memory of Sibilla Bodine, wife of Peter Bodine,
Died April 4, 1825, Aged 66 years."
The land where Peter had a log cabin (I don't think it is still there), and
later a house, is right around the corner from the cemetery.

located Sibilla's stone AND what must be Peter's. His name is on the chart;

so open on each side of their stones, so it has got to be his. His is
fieldstone and is not legible, just blank...
It is listed that he came over from France. I was taken around the bend to
where he originally lived in a log cabin, and then a house on the same
grounds. Wesley Bellis Bodine took me there...
By the way, on the stone it is spelled Sibilla, but their chart also said
Stella next to Sibilla. SO it was probably what they called her... I didn't
get to see if any other of Peter's children are there. There was only one we
went to, William. Although there are a lot of Bodines there, I don't think any
more of his children are there. Wesley Bodine took me from there to Rosemont
Cemetery; his parents and siblings are there and a grandfather. His Great
Grandfather is at Sandy Ridge.
He said he has records going back to France. We will meet when he can.
Probably go to a place to make copies. I don't know if you and I are in the
same line, but I believe he and I are. I am thrilled to have gotten this much
done. I do not know what Hiram Deets's records might show. He is long since
passed, but he was the historian for Hunterdom County. In time, I can go back
to the Historical Society. I will write again when I get the photos...

This cemetery adjoins the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, which was constituted
October 24, 1818, although the first building was completed some months

I got a call from the Pastor ( John Gillian ), then the Caretaker ( Bud Kazant
) of the Cemetery of Sandy Ridge Church. He didn't have record of Peter
Bodine but did of Sabillah. They have only the birth & death dates.
Sabillah ( Stella ) Bodine, Died April 4th, 1825 at age 66, which would put
her birth date at 1759.
He gave me the lot number ( 44? ) and said he would meet me at the Church to
look at the Maps of the Cemetery to see if we could find the stone(s). He's
86 Years young... So, we got a little here with Sabillah's birth and death
dates and will keep on looking and that's a start...

with Cousin
Jackie Lubinski and we raised the stone of Peter Bodine. We found no markings
indicating
it is his stone. But who could it be other than him. It's inches from
Sibilla's and it's the only
piece of Brownstone in the entire cemetery. By the way, there are a few
Sibilla's there -- one
or two may be Sybella or other slight difference in spelling. So apparently
it was a popular name.

Subject: Jacob Bodine's Wife
Hello David,
It has been quite a while since we have connected. I hope all is well.
To update: my father Victor Charles Bodine passed away on June 22, 2016. He
was closing in on 95 years old. I threw some of his ashes off the Washington
Crossings Bridge into the Delaware River, crossing the bridge into
Pennsylvania I scattered ashes there, then to the family plot I purchased in
Cream Ridge, NJ at Emley's Hill Cemetery.
I scattered ashes there and interred the rest on my plot. Next to Pamela Gaff,
who so tragically passed in the 2nd Tower on 9/11.
** Also, Peters wife's name is spelled Sibilla on her stone at Sandy Ridge
Cemetery. There are at least 2 or 3 other Sibilla's there with different
spellings. I go by what is on her stone. My Cousin Jackie Lubinski helped me
raise Peter's stone, but saw no real markings on it.
She told me to please wait for her as she wanted to be there when I scattered
Dad's ashes. Im so glad she did. It was quite emotional. She was there for me
the whole way through. She is my 26th Cousin once removed.
Years back i went to Hunterdon County Historical Society and as I was telling
the clerk my name, someone else said to me: What's your name, and when I told
her she said: Brian, I'm your cousin Jackie!
The last time we searched to find Jacobs father John Bodine folks tried there
b est to search at HCHS but when we found nothing, they told us to go down the
road to search real estate records. I hope to do that soon.

This family had descendants who moved to Columbia County, Pennsylvania (son
Peter Bodine). Columbia County came from Northumberland County. The book on
the history of Columbia and Montour Counties, Pennsylvania lists some Ent
families in those areas.
I bet that the Jacob Bodine who married Catherine Fauss is related to this
family. They are from the Stockton area, too, and are buried in the cemetery
behind the Sand Brook German Baptist Church. He is probably their grandson,
but that is just a guess at this time.

combination of the ENT and BODINE surnames together. When I poked around I
found you have them as being from New Jersey. That's close enough for me at
the stage my research is in to still hold an interest.
I am trying to track down alll that I can on an elusive LINA SNYDER who
married SCHOFIELD. Both of them are buried in Chester Co., Pa. and I believe
they lieved there. Where Lina Snyder was born and raised is still a mystery. I
believe I have her traced down as having been one of three children born to
CALVIN SNYDER and MELINDA ENT. It appears that MELINDA ENT had several
brothers and sisters (whose names I have). One was a sister Jerusha ENT who
married William BODINE. They had two children Frank and Ethel.
Does any of this look familiar to you? Do you have any information on Lina
Snyder Schofield?

The following information comes from LDS microfilm #982266. This film has a
lot of different genealogical data on it, but I only looked at the section
called "Best and Bodine Families." This is found about halfway through the
film. It is composed of at least seventy pages of family group sheets, notes,
abstracts, and other items of genealogical interest. Most of it has to do with
the Bodine and Best families from Ontario, Canada and Columbia County,
Pennsylvania. It does not seem to be put together into any organized fashion,
but there is a lot of information in this file. I believe all of it comes from
work done and gathered by Harry Bodine, 307 4th Street, Evanston, WY 82930.
And much of his information seems to have come from Mrs. Catherine Horman of
Ferndale, Michigan. Her mother was Clara Belle Bodine. It seems that this was
all put together in the 1960's.
One of the papers in this file was this information from a Case-Bodine
family Bible. It was handwritten. Looking at this paper, I couldn't understand
exactly where the Bible info came from. This Case-Bodine Bible data may have
come from the September 1965 edition of Genealogical Helper, p. 134 - 194 (?).
I'm not sure where this Genealogical Helper was published, probably Lycoming
County or possibly Columbia County, Pennsylvania or even somewhere in New
Jersey. This was submitted by Miss Violetta Hill, 177 Valley Road, Wayne, New
Jersey. Miss Hill was working in New Jersey on names like Bodine, Case, Deats,
Haserick, and Stonenburg. In Pennsylvania, she was working on Andrews, Barger,
Briggs, Buchanan, Campbell, Carpenter, Carr, Case, Cruysinger, Faust,
Haserick, Hill, Hauser, King, Lee, Marshall, Marsey, Pearson, Penquiste,
Smith, Starr, Stauts, Taylor, and Thurston. The Case name also appears as Kase
and Kaese. It seems that Miss Hill's Bodine line married into the Case line
and moved to Columbia County, Pennsylvania about 1808. The Case line moved to
Lycoming County (PA) in the 1850's.

bought in Pottsville, PA on December 29, 1850. It was published by James B.
Smith & Co. in 1847 (23 S. 8th Street, Philadelphia). The words "Susan B.
Case, 1868" are written in it somewhere. The info from this Bible was sent to
Violetta Hill in September of 1964 by Mrs. Nancy Sweeney, the genealogical
chair of Columbia County. The page I am copying from is handwritten.

Note by Dave Bodine: This information gets confusing, but this is what
I understand. This Bible belonged to Susan B. Case, the youngest of the
thirteen children of Adam Case and Anna Bodine. The birth dates for these
thirteen children are not listed in this Bible. However, the date "Feb. 2,
1817" given above does refer to the birth date of Susan B. Case and not her
mother, Anna (Bodine) Case. Someone has interpreted it that way in the past.
However, Anna (Bodine) Case's birth date is given further above as "Dec. 1778
(?)." I'm not sure why the question mark is there. The date may be a little
off or the person transcribing the Bible could not read it well. The Bible
information continues below.

Looking on the map, Howell's Ferry was between Wilburtha, Mercer County, New
Jersey and Yardley, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Ronny spent some time reading one of the Hunterdon County, NJ Common Pleas
Court Minute Books which covered 1789--1794.When reading the common pleas for
1790, he found this citation:
May 1790 PETER BODINE, Amwell, with securities John Mildrum, Joseph Mattison,
Peter Johnson.
There was no notation as to what this would represent, no tavern license,
court case, etc. on a long list of people with their securities. Ronny says
this would refer to Peter 1756-1810.
