Notes for: Peter Bodine

This Peter might be related to BK#17688, a Peter Bodine from Fairfield County, Ohio. Information on this family originally came from the LDS site.

More information later came from Joyce Cook. She believes that this Peter Bodine is probably related to Joseph Maddison Bodine and Abraham L. Bodine from Orleans County, New York. I think she is probably correct. Joyce had an aunt who visited Peter's grave in New Jersey. It is in some cemetery there (possibly near Washington, New Jersey), but she is not sure.

Joyce also has pictures of Susan Bodine, Kate Bodine and Asa Hill, and Jennie Bodine and Ezra DeWitt. She has other pictures that are not labled. One of these could be Peter Bodine, but she does not know.

I recently discovered the Peter Bodine I have been searching for died at his residence, in Union township, on the moring of Friday, March 23d, 1866 age 64 years, 11 months and 1 day. I believe that to be near Clinton, NJ. Peter Bodine is my gggrandfather.

My question is: who, how do I located which cemetery he might be buried in along with his wife Susan LeFoy Bodine? These cemeteries do not apprear to be online. Thanks for you help.

Joyce hit the jackpot with this family when Beverly Kirby-McDonough found the family tombstone for Peter Bodine and Susan LeFoy. Here is that info below:

Dear Joyce,
As I wrote to you previously, I suspected that your Peter Bodine might be buried at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, known locally as "Grandin Church", at Union Township. Well, I am right. (I love being right!) I didn't get a chance to go to the Hunterdon County Historical Society at Flemington last night as planned, due to a severe thunderstorm. I did, however, stop at the church to do headstone inscriptions for another researcher. I remembered your Peter Bodine query. As I looked up, there was the monument.

Note from Dave Bodine: Here is a picture of the church which Beverly took:

Bethlehem Presbyterian (Grandin) Church

The interesting thing about the headstone is that it very large, with lots of names. Here they are:

If you like, I could go back to the church with my digital camera and get a picture of the stone for you. Just let me know. Of what child of Peter Bodine are you descended?

I hope you enjoy this "instant family"!

Note from Dave: I think a lot of the information on this tombstone is informational and does not indicate that all of these Bodines are buried at the Grandin Church. This is being checked into.

Ronny Bodine previously sent me the following:

Abraham Bodine, in his will of 1876, having no surviving children, named his heirs as his wife Amy, and after her death his surviving siblings or their heirs. From Ronny Bodine:

Jane Bodine DeWitt corresponded with Mary Elizabeth Sinnott, author of the 1905 "Annals of the Sinnott, Rogers, Coffin, Corlies, Reeves, Bodine and Allied Families," and provided the following record of her family. This correspondence was included in the collection of Ms. Sinnott's papers on deposit with the Pennsylvania Historical Society. This family was not included in Ms. Sinnott's genealogy as she apparently was unable to assign Peter Bodine to any of the family lines.
