Notes for: David Monroe Bodine, Sr.

Marie Wright thinks that he could be buried with other members of his family in Mercer Cemetery in Trenton, but that is just a guess right now. She is checking out that possibility. David was the informant for his mother's death certificate of September 19, 1920. He was living in Trenton at the time.

I did not have a middle initial for him until I got Marie Wright's information on the factory called David M. Bodine Pork Roll. See below for more on this.

Marie Wright says that it was this David Bodine who owned the Bodine Pork Roll factory. The Trenton Magazine (the Chamber of Commerce's monthly publication) of July 1939 says, "D. M. Bodine & Son (Est. 1884). In 1937 this pork packing (prepared ham) company built a new daylight factory at Calhoun and Wilson Streets."

In the tax records for the Calhoun Stree address were a couple of photos of the factory. One, undated, shows the name of the factory as "D. M. Bodine & Sons Pork Products." The other photo, from 1957, shows the name as Taylor Pork Roll, Plant No. 2." This change is backed up by the tax records which indicate a sale of the factory in 1953. Also, in the city directories, D. M. Bodine & Sons is listed in 1952, but not in 1954. It appears the business ended in 1953. And some information regarding building permits shows that the business at 501 Calhoun Street was plotted on August 5, 1953 and then sold from "David M. Bodine et al to James Erzak et al Stamps $66.00 S. P. $60,000." Erzak seems to have sold it to Taylor Provision Company on August 31, 1956.

Marie sent me copies of the pictures of this factory.

Hi, Dave! I happened on your website and was astonished. My father is David M. Bodine III, my brother is David M. Bodine IV. They were born in Mercer County, NJ, and they descend from Judiah (Jediah) Higgins Bodine. Very interesting to find all these connections! Is there any information I can give you?
