Notes for: John 'McClure' Bodine

This may be another brother of David Rickoff Bodine. This would make Peter, John, David, and Jacob. According to the 1880 Census of Bucks Co., PA, both of John's parents were born in Pennsylvania. They also had a Cynthia Bodine living with them at the time of the 1880 Census. She was born about 1862. She was a servant of A. Kirk Worthington, 36, her employer.

Here is some information from a Bucks County, PA site that may shed some light on this family:

CARY L. GORDON, farmer, P.O. New Hope, was born in Buckingham township, April 21, 1835, and is a son of Stephen and Araminta (Bodine) Gordon. His grandfather was Giles Gordon, an early settler of Wrightstown, Bucks county, whose children were: Giles, James, John, Stephen, Zephaniah, Mary and Ann. His maternal grandfather was David Bodine, an early settler of Buckingham and a lime burner by occupation. Stephen Gordon was reared in Wrightstown township, lived in Buckingham, and about the year 1850 came to Solebury and located on the farm occupied by our subject. Later he removed to Philadelphia and died there. His children were: Cary L., Edward, Morris, William H., Anna M. and Angeline. Cary L. Gordon is a prominent farmer of Solebury. In 1865 he married Melissa, daughter of Robert N. and Rebecca (Selner) Caffey, of Upper Makefield township. They have an adopted daughter, Mary A. Mrs. Gordon is a member of the Presbyterian church, and of the W.C.T.U. Mr. Gordon is a republican politically.

Budd Sterling Bodine was living in the 18th Ward of Philadelphia in 1860. This is the same time that this family was living nearby (19th ward). See the census info below sent to me by Jim Greenwood.

In the 19th Ward (Philadelphia), 1860 on P.59 and cont. on P60.

Ellen Rebecca - Death certificate states doctor attended her from Oct 10
- Nov l0 which makes me accept the Nov 11 date, too. She died at her daughter's home in New Jersey - from family info and certificate. She was called Ella or Ellie by her peers and Granny by two granddaughters.

Ellen R and Elias Bennett are both buried at Union Cemetery, Richboro, Bucks Co, Pa. I did not realize I should take pictures of the tombstones at the time I was there.

The marriage certificate looks like HH Bodine as the minister. I am not good at reading the initials.

Martha Kimble Bodine's birth date was a typo. It should be 1812.

If you would like copies of death certificate, marriage certificate, letter, etc. in my possession, please let me know. These were found in the Bennett family Bible.

Re Family Search Records
McClure Bodine and Martha Kemble marriage must be John McClure and Martha Kimble.
l880 census - The only age that appears correct is Martha at 68. John M. and Mrs. Martha Bodine is a bit of a mess if my records are correct I have no idea who Cynthia was unless a child who died young or David's wife.

Think I should get copies of other death certificates and see where that leads us.

Re: John McClure Bodine m. Martha Kimble

Kimble seems to be the correct spelling for her name.
Add - marriage at the Newtown Hotel
(not sure specifically where that is/was)
She is the oldest of six children.
Father - John Kimble 1789-1857
Mother - Hannah Carver 1787-1863

*Hannah dates - LDS
Verification of Martha's birth plus new info
Kimble, Serch T. and Helen M.: The Kinble Family from Z to A. Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore, MD, 1984.

I found their son who gave me a copy of his father's book. The Bodines in this area may also be from Buck's County. I have found descendants from there all around here - Quaker families. Guess I need to go back to Buck's County one of these days before it becomes an impossibility.

From Ronny Bodine:

In 1850, McClure Bodine and his family lived in Kensington, Philadelphia County where he worked as a blacksmith. John Bodine and his family lived in Buckingham Township, Bucks County in 1870-1880. He worked as a limestone quarry mason in 1870 and a blacksmith in 1880. Martha (Kimble) Bodine was the daughter of John and Hannah (Carver) Kimble. See Carver, Elias,. "Genealogy of William Carver from Hertfordshire, England in 1682," Philadelphia, Pa: Loughead & Co., 1984, p. 82, 128.
