My parents are still alive. None of the great uncles are alive and only my aunt Kay, who lives in Murray, Kentucky remains. She is actually my grandfather's stepdaughter. His other children Steve and Pam are still living.

Thanks for replying. It is great to know someone is doing such extensive work on the family.

Hi Dave,

I do not know the name of the previous husband. I know that my mom was about 11 years old when my granddad married Kittie Starrett. Bud and Kay were younger than my mom, by a couple of years or so. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. I do know that my granddad adopted both of the kids shortly after they married and that all of the kids that Bud had considered my grandfather their grandfather.

Obituary, Galveston Daily News (Galveston, Texas) of 13 Dec 1941.
Texas City, Tex., Dec. 12. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bodine, 31, wife of E. D. Bodine, an employee of the Southport Refinery, died here at 7:55 o'clock Friday night. Mrs. Bodine had been a resident of Galveston County for nine years. She was a former resident of Galveston but had resided in LaMarque and Texas City most of the nine years. Surviving besides her husband are: A daughter, Robbie June; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Sellers Sr. of San Antonio; five sisters, Mrs. L. A. Cain of Pasadena, Mrs. H. Horn of Edenburg, Miss., Mrs. Oscar Vaught of Vernon, Mrs. Clara May Cook of Vernon and Miss Jewell Sellers of San Antonio, and four brothers, R. L. Sellers Jr. of San Antonio; C. L. Sellers of Texas City, R. C. Sellers of Texas City and Raymond Sellers of Lamesa. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Texas City, Rev. J. W. Joiner of La Marque will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. Roland P. Hood and Rev. Charles R. Smith, pastor of Galveston Broadway Baptist Church. Interment will be in Galveston Memorial Park.

Eugene Darrow Bodine AND Kittie Leota Strong were married 4 July 1942. [Note: Kittie was previously married to Harvey Madison Strong by whom she had two children, according to Texas Birth Records: Harvey Madison, born 7 June 1933 in Galveston and Kay Ruth, born 26 Dec 1936 in Galveston County. Both children were adopted by Eugene Bodine.]

PEARLAND--Services for Kittie L. Bodine, 67, of Pearland, will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Pearland Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Grace Memorial Park at Alta Loma. Mrs. Bodine died Tuesday. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Pearland and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Bodine of Pearland; two sons, Steve and H. M. Bodine of Pearland and New Braunfels ; three daughters, Pam Carter of Friendswood, Robbie Remmens of Santa Fe, and Kay Outland of Murray, Ky.; a brother, Terry Jay Starrett of Houston; four sisters, Jay Gaston and Theresa Lum of Santa Fe, Dolly Brown of Texas City and Nita Carruthems of Dickinson, and 12 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren and other relatives.

Kittie (Starrett) Bodine was the daughter of Earnest G. and Onie (Evans) Starrett with whom she was living in April 1930 in Galveston County, Texas.
