Notes for: Joseph Bodine

I believe his birth date comes from the Samuel Bodine Bible.

Most of this information on the family of Joseph Bodine comes from Brett M. Bodine of California, a descendant of Wesley Bodine. He has done a lot of work along with Dianna Alaniz on this tree. Dianna has a web page with some Bodine information at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/3712/.

Some of this info comes from the following query posted by Dianna (Alaniz) on September 22, 1998 at www.genforum.com/bodine/:

Joseph BODINE (b: abt 1803 VA) married Elizabeth THOMAS (b: 1804 PA)7 Aug 1825 Wayne Co, OH. He was gone by the 1860 census as she was living with her daughter Louisa MOSS. I believe I have some of their children: Louisa b: 1837 OH, Lorinda, b: abt 1839, John and possibly a Wesley and an Allen (who was a witness at Louisa's wedding in 1855 Allen Co, IN). ANY HELP would be very much appreciated. For detailed info visit my web page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/3712/

In the 1880 Census of Clay County, Kansas and the 1900 Census of Garfield County, Oklahoma, Wesley (Joseph's brother) listed both his parents as being from Ohio.

Brett said there's a Joseph Bodine who bought a federal land patent in Wayne County, Ohio in 1833 and a John Bodine who bought another federal land patent in Wayne County, Ohio in 1826. He said that perhaps John died and gave the land to his son Samuel who remained there through 1850.

Dianna Alaniz believes that Joseph must have died before 1860. She said, "Elizabeth was living with her daughter Louisa Bodine Moss in the 1860 census up until her death date. I cannot find them anywhere in the 1850 census either. Plus the fact that Allen Bodine was witness at his siblings weddings, I believe he stood in for the father figure. I have never found Joseph on paper anywhere."

Dianna Alaniz wrote: Elizabeth died at Louisa Moss's, her daughter's, home. According to her obituary in the Leader Enterprise 19 Feb 1891, Page 4, she came to Ohio with her parents in 1811. They had seven children of which only 5 were still living by 1891. She had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for about 72 years. For 8 years she had been bedridden and died from La Grippe. WFT V12 #2824 from Charles Finton, son-in-law of Lillie Whitehead says Joseph was born 11 Feb 1807.

There is also information about Joseph and his wife in the Charles Fox book about Joseph Fox. Included were Joseph's birth year (1808) and place of birth and Elizabeth's birth date, death date, and places of birth (state) and death.

The book on Fox's is by Charles S. Fox, 11903 S.Youngwood, Houston, TX 77043-1015. The price may be $60.00.

Subject: Joseph Bodine and Elizabeth Thomas

Elizabeth Thomas Bodine appears in the 1850 Census of Cass, Hancock, Ohio as Elizabeth Boden. With her are her children Allen age 17, Lucinda age 15, Louisa age 5, and Joseph D age 10. Joseph appears in the 1840 Census of Putnam County, Ohio, but is not with Elizabeth in 1850. He must have died between 1840 and 1850.

Joseph Dennis Bodine, born 16 Jul 1840, and his wife Angeline Carlin had a son, Allen S Bodine who appears in the 1870 Census of Croton, Newaygo, Michigan, age 1, born in Indiana. Allen S appears in the 1880 Census of Lisbon Village, Kent, Michigan, age 11, born in Indiana, named son. Allen S appears in the 1910 census age 41 named a widower, with this parents. Allen S appears in the 1920 Census of Lynn Haven, Bay, Florida age 50 named divorced, with his mother Angeline who is named a widow. In the 1900 Census of Steuben, Steuben, Indiana Angeline is named mother of 2 children, 1 living. Allen S is not with his parents in the 1900 census.

Your updated website 5 Oct 2009 is wonderful.

From Ronny Bodine:

Joseph Bodine must surely be identical with his namesake living 1840 in Putnam County, Ohio. Based upon the sex and age groupings of his household they match perfectly with himself, his wife and all six children, leaving a female child aged 4 and under who is unknown. His youngest child, Joseph, was born after the 1840 census was taken. Since, Joseph was his last child, it appears likely that Joseph died soon after.

In June 1850, Elizabeth Boden, age 45, lived with her family in Cass Township, Hancock County, Ohio. Her household included Allen 17, Lucinda 15, Louisa 12, Joseph L. 10. In July 1860, Elizabeth Bodine lived in Cedar Creek Township, Allen County, Indiana in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Louisa and Rafael Moss. In June 1880, now aged 75, she lived with Rafael and Louisa Moss in Northwest Township, Williams County, Ohio.

Elizabeth died at Louisa Moss's, her daughter's, home.
