Notes for: Earl Hunter Bodine

An online artice says Earl Bodine quit racing in 1963 (or maybe 1964) at the age of 28. That would mean he was born about 1935. The same article also says he was the youngest of Eli's sons.

The Evening Times (Sayre, Penn.) of 14 May 1959 reported the wedding of Earl Hunter Bodine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli H. Bodine of Chemung and of Orlando, Florida AND Miss Sharon Ann Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Scott of Chemung on 9 May at the Chemung Methodist Church by Rev. Keith Inskeep, pastor. Maynard Bodine, brother of the groom, was best man. Miss Denise Bodine of Chemung, niece of the groom, was a bridesmaid. Geoffrey Bodine of Chemung, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.

Earl and Sharon Bodine were divorced and Sharon married 2ndly, Michael Jerome Dowd.

BODINE, Earl Hunter, Age 73, of Chemung, NY, died Monday, October 13, 2008, at home after an extended illness. Family and friends may call at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Funeral services there Thursday at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Anne Bey Canfield of the Waverly United Methodist officiating. Interment in Chemung Cemetery, Chemung, NY. In lieu of flowers friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Rd. Corning, NY 14830. Earl is survived by his wife of 23 years Ardena, children, Scott (Connie) Bodine; Eric (Jackie) Bodine; Camille (Mike) Mattison and Cale (Jodie) Bodine, all of Waverly, NY, Step-children Theresa (John) Smith of Athens, PA, and Patrick (Michele) Sullivan of Waverly, NY, brother Maynard Bodine of Chemung, NY, sisters, Lucille Ellis of Chemung, NY, and Sarah Monell of Cato, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Earl had a successful racing career at the local level. He started racing at Chemung Race Track in 1955, being the first Bodine driver. He won numerous Features and Championships. Along with his brother, Maynard, he operated Bodine Brothers in Chemung for close to 50 years. Earl is predeceased by brothers Milton, Eli, and Jimmy, and sisters Jeanette, Marion, and Lois.

Ardena Jean (Callear) Bodine, 72, of Chemung, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Earl Hunter Bodine who passed away on October13, 2008. The couple had 23 happy years together. Ardena was born on November 9, 1940 in Sayre, PA, daughter of the Clinton and Florence (Snyder) Callear. She was a graduate of Athens High School, and worked for GE, Westinghouse, and P&C Market in Athens. She was also was a beautician and had her own shop. Ardena was United Methodist by faith, was an avid sewer and gardener, and enjoyed trips to Tioga Downs. Ardena is survived by her children Theresa Ann Smith and husband John L. of Athens, PA, and Patrick M. Sullivan and wife Michele of Waverly, NY; her step children, Scott (Connie) Bodine, Eric Bodine, Camille Mattison and Cale Bodine, all of Waverly, NY; her granddaughters Tasha Lyn Sullivan and fiancé Mike Chandler and Shelby Morgan Sullivan; her step grandchildren, Tricia Bodine, Taylor Bodine, Hunter Bodine, Brittney Birks, Heather Birks, Carlee Mattison, Nicholas Mattison, Isis Barber, Sasha Bodine, Delaney Bodine, Jason Bowers, and Joshua Bowers; her great grandson Lucas Chandler; her siblings, Herthel Campbell of Sayre, PA, Jack Callear of Sayre, Chuck Callear of Athens, Don and Phyllis Callear of Athens; her sister-in-law Phyllis Callear of Athens; along with several nieces and nephews. Ardena is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl; her son Michael Patrick; her brother Lavern Callear; and her sisters-in-law Barbara and Penny Callear; and her first husband Robert J.
