I had his name as William Garrett Bodine, but RB has it as Garrett R. Bodine. He listed as Garret Bodine in the 1880 Census of Eatontown, Monmouth Co., NJ. His name may be different in the 1920 Census. Check that out some time.

Garrett R. Bodine was born 5 April 1878 in Atlantic Township, Monmouth County to Wm. & Mary Bodine.

[Note: His obituary notes he was born in Colts Neck, then located in Atlantic Township which name was changed to Colts Neck Township in 1962.]

In 1910, Garret Bodine, age 31 and single, was living with his parents in Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey where he worked as a grocery store clerk.

Mabel H. Bodine died 1 Dec 1917 in San Luis Obispo County, aged 32.

Friends of Mrs. Mabel Jones Bodine, wife of Garret R. Bodine, formerly of this city, will be grieved to learn of her death at Paso Robles, Cal. The end came Friday, Nov. 20, after a lingering illness. Mr. Bodine is now on his way east with the body of his wife. The funeral party left California on Monday and is due at Central station, Long Branch, at 6.17 o'clock Saturday night. The body will be taken to the home of William Bodine, 495 High street, this city, where funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 10, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Elijah F. Reed of Belford, and Rev. J. B. J. Rhodes, pastor of the Simpson Memorial M. E. Church, will be in charge of the services. Burial will be made in Glenwood cemetery in charge of funeral directors Hyer & Flock. Mrs. Bodine was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ebenezer H. Jones, of Belford, formerly of Long Branch, and was born at Bradley Beach 32 years ago. She was married to Mr. Bodine six years ago by Rev. John G. Lovell, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Bodine is survived by one daughter, Virginia, 4 years old, and two brothers, Ralph and James Jones, of Paso Robles, Cal. Mrs. Bodine had lived in California for the past three years. Her husband was in the grocery business at Pasadena, Cal., for several years, but removed some time ago to Paso Robles, two hundred miles further south, for the benefit of Mrs. Bodine's health. Mrs. Bodine had been ailing for the past three or four months and had been sick in bed for three weeks. While in Long Branch Mrs. Bodine was active in the Simpson Memorial M. E. Church and Sunday school, and was beloved by a host of friends. The many friends of the bereaved husband living here join in extending sympathy.

In April 1930, he was widowed, age 51, and living with his mother in Long Branch. He owned his own plumbing business.

On 25 April 1942, Garrett R. Bodine of the Columbia Hotel in Long Branch, registered for the World War II Draft. He reported he was born 5 April 1878 in Long Branch, NJ and was unemployed.

Garrett Bodine died January 1952 in Freehold Township, Monmouth County.

Garrett Bodine, 74, chief of the Long Branch fire department in 1928, died yesterday at the County Welfare Home in Freehold. Born in Colts Neck, Bodine was the son of the late William and Mary Borden Bodine, and lived in Long Branch all his life. He is survived by two nieces. Bodine was a retired architect and plumber. He was a member of Phil Daly Hose Company 2 and was financial secretary of the company, a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea R. C. Church, and a member of the Holy Name Society, the Ushers' Association, the Monmouth County Chiefs Association, and the Officers' Association of Long Branch. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Woolley Funeral Home.
