Stauffer, aged 18, born in Sheadsville, Texas, enlisted 27 June 1898 in Brooklyn NY as a Private in Company M, 22nd Infantry Regiment and was mustered out 23 Nov 1898 at Fort Slocum, New York. [Note: There is no Sheadsville in Texas, but there is a Headsville, in Robertson County. The community may no longer exist.]

Matawan---Mrs. Elizabeth Stauffer, 77, died yesterday at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Fred Moser, 149 Broad St. Mrs. Stauffer was born in Long Branch, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Bodine. She was the widow of Albert Stauffer. Mrs. Stauffer was a communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews, Keyport; two other grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Day's Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements
