Mrs. Jemima Atkinson Gerard, aged 73 years, wife of John Gerard, died at her home at 42 Black Rock avenue early this morning, following an illness of some time. Mrs. Gerard was a native of Quakertown, New Jersey, but has resided in this city for many years. Her death came as a shock to her many friends which she acquired in this city. Besides her husband, John Gerard, she leaves three daughters and two sons, Miss Grace A. Gerard and Mrs. O. W. Judd, of this city, Mrs. F. H. Ansdall, of Hartford, John B. Gerard, of New Britain and Walter H., of West Haven. The funeral will be strictly private Friday afternoon from the late residence, the burial being in the Fairview cemetery. Rev. Dr. G. W. C. Hills, pastor of the South Congregational church, will officiate.

The funeral of John Gerard of 42 Black Rock avenue, who died Saturday night, will be held from his home at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Rev. Dr. G. W. C. Hill will officiate and interment will be in Fairview cemetery. Heart failure, with which Mr. Gerard was stricken after his evening meal on Saturday, caused his death. Mr. Gerard was born in Canada, September 21, 1839, but came to the States early in life, and when the Civil War broke he enlisted in Company A, 6th Vermont Volunteer Infantry, serving throughout the war. He belonged to Stunley Post, G.A.R. For the past 22 years he had been employed in the pattern making department at the Russell & Erwin plant. Mr. Gerard is survived by the following sons and daughters: Walter H., West Haven; Mrs. Fred H. Ausdell, Hartford; Mrs. Oliver N. Judd, New Britain, and Miss Grace A. Gerard of this city.
