Robert Bodine, a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, was killed in action in Vietnam. His name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

SSgt. U.S. Army, Vietnam War-SSgt. Bodine was killed in action by small arms fire on 3-16-1968 while serving as a Weapons Support Radar Repairman {26B2P} with the HHB of the 2nd Battalion, of the 320th Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. SSgt. Bodine started his tour of Vietnam on June 25, 1967.

He is the son of Mr. Robert Bodine of 436 East Tamarock Avenue, Inglewood, California, and is the husband of Mrs. Rosemary Bodine of 7534 North Oleander Avenue, Chicago, and is a 1961 graduate of the Chicago Catholic School System.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Jump Wings, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal.

Robert Bodine, a U.S. Army Sergeant serving with the 101st Airborne Division, was killed by friendly fire in ground action in South Vietnam. He was given a posthumous promotion to Staff Sergeant.

"Viet GI Dad Killed Before Seeing Child"
Abstract. Daughter Diane Marie Bodine was born 15 March in Ravenswood Hospital, Chicago. Mother, Mrs. Rose Mary Bodine, was still in the hospital when she received word of her husband's death in Vietnam. Robert Bodine had served four years in the U.S. Navy, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married on 1 Jan 1967 in Chicago. He wrote his last letter home the day before he died saying he was going on a combat mission and that he was apprehensive about it.
